There is a $5.00 entrance fee, cash only. I believe you get a discount if you're a local resident, but I'm not sure by how much. I love coming to this park, it's very well managed. Perfect for going on a hike through the trails or taking a book to relax. I've probably come to this park 15+ times in the last year and a half, I'd come more often if it was closer to where I lived. The fact that there is a building for restrooms as well as several porta potties is very useful, especially when you have kids that can't always be expected to hold it long enough to make it to the nice restrooms (also please be aware they lock those restrooms after a certain point, so they're not open 24/7 all year round). Worth it to pay up the $5.00, especially if you plan on hiking or staying for a good amount of time. I also appreciate that fact that smoking isn't allowed - I think I saw my first cigarette butt on the playground today and I realized how much I appreciated the fact that they weren't littering the ground...
Read moreSo today I received a call from my daughter asking if I wanted to go disc golfing...honestly l was a little reluctant...so I told her to call me back...well she did so i agreed to go...we then traveled to Grand Ledge's Fitzgerald park...the park was very well maintained and the disc course was challenging maybe not for those avid disc golfers but for someone who can barely throw a frisbee whew!...and to top it off my frisbee went down in a hole... and it wasn't that easy to go down and for an old man like myself a little more challenging to get out of...needless to say I slipped and fell on my way out...a little muddy...my daughter did volunteer to retrieve my disc and I said no...but the funny part to this is after my struggles getting out...my daughter spotted a rope and a less slippery side to get in and out of the hole...but this review is about the park...great park well maintained well worth the...
Read moreI hiked on Ledges Trail from Fitzgerald Park to downtown Grand Ledge and Second Island. It's a very pleasant and scenic hike. Just watch for narrow paths, steep drops, and rocks and roots in the path!
The park does leave some wanting, though. I wish there was more historical information readily available to learn about the area and the significance of the ledges, which are evidently quite important to local culture. The main reason I rated the park 5 stars is because trail entrances are not marked very well. The main trails have a board with a map and a container advertising free trail guides, but is really filled with some kids activity pamphlet. The Ledges Trail is virtually unmarked and I wouldn't have found it without looking at the map on the other side of the parking lot.
Otherwise, the park seems well maintained and fairly active. Definitely check it out if you're...
