We took three little ones along the hike. I thought taking my 2 1/2 year old it would be pretty tough hiking a little over 2 miles going down into a canyon, along a creek and then back up the hillside but it was great! She walked almost the entire two miles! We went in October and Mazama campground was closed. We parked across the road from the campground where there is a trail down to Annie creek on that side. Across the road is the trail to get down into the canyon and hike along the creek. The leaves, grass and all of the foliage had turned colors and was absolutely stunning along the creek. There’s plenty of areas along the trail to touch the water. The kids got to see and hold pumice. We found tons of mushrooms and we found a lot of trees with big burls in them! These trees are so cool and woodworkers pay a lot of money for these kinds of trees. The kids had fun crossing the creek over many bridges. There was even a troll under a couple of the bridges, making it difficult for the kids to get across! 😆 This was a fun hike for the kids. It took some time getting up the hill coming up on the other side, but it wasn’t too bad. Just take your time. Enjoy the peace and serenity of the creek water trickling or the other...
Read moreWonderful hike! The Annie Creek Trail starts off along the back side of Mazama campground. I recommend walking around counterclockwise where you go along the campground a-f before slowly dipping down into the canyon. We went on the hike a bit before sunset and didn't see a single person in the canyon. You will walk alongside a meandering creek at the bottom, frequently crossing over with small little bridges. The trail is very peaceful with the sound of trickling water. If you go close to sunset during twilight the hike feels quite magical. The elevation gain is not too bad, especially if you go counterclockwise. You will barely notice the incline as you walk against the creek, slowly gaining elevation on the way. If you happen to visit Crater lake during wildfire season like we did, the smoke in the canyon barely hinders the view compared to other hikes in the park. Come check it out! Also, didn't have any issues with mosquitos in August but can't guarantee the same experience during...

You'll hike down into a canyon filled with wildflowers, a charming creek, and incredible views. I spent nearly an hour hiking this area and didn't come...
