The Anthony Lakes area is an alpine wilderness in the Elkhorn Range of the majestic Blue Mountains in Eastern Oregon featuring prime Oregon hiking, photography, and outdoor recreation. The area contains approximately 15 lakes, including some of the more notable ones: Anthony, Grande Ronde, Mud, Dutch Flat, Lilypad, Hoffer, and Black.
The Anthony Lakes area offers a wide variety of activities, including hiking, hunting, fishing, mountain climbing, photography, skiing, snow shoeing, and developed and backcountry camping. The geology and landscape is highly akin to the prominent Wallowa area and one of the top destinations in Oregon for hiking: the Eagle Cap Wilderness in the northeastern portion of Oregon. With comparable granite craggy peaks and alpine wilderness, the Anthony Lakes area is a top destination in Oregon for photography and hiking. Additionally as the area is not quite as far as the Eagle Cap Wilderness, it is more accessible for many in Oregon.
This alpine wonderland created by the Elkhorn Mountains is situated in the central portion of the wide-ranging Blue Mountains that extend from Southeast Washington into neighboring Oregon. Read moreThe camp sites are tiny.. if you have a trailer just be prepared because the spots are small and many don’t fit both the camper and the truck or tow vehicle. The lake itself is Beautiful and there are lots of additional hikes with other vistas and hidden gems all around. This is a very family friendly day use and camping area. It felt very safe. The ONLY really bad thing was that the vault toilets were in much need of some TLC. It was end of season so I get it.. but there’s ways to keep the odor down. Not sure they had enough...
Read moreWe camped 2 nights. Beautiful area. Serene lake. We caught 3 fish- everyone was catching fish because they'd just stocked it. Really nice weather in July- 80 to 85 degree highs and still cool enough on the lake. Pick a campsite with more gravel and green and less dust!!
FYI: The route we took up to the lake was a NINE percent grade at times!
Also, we have a 38 ft trailer and it was really tight in the campground and only a few spots...
