It was damp and foggy , with a light rain, when we got to the Cape Meares State Park. There was barely anyone there at the time we were. It was so beautiful in all the trees and moss hanging. We had come to see the Octopus Tree so we headed up the trail to it. The nicely maintained trail was a somewhat uphill walk. Nice that it was not too hard to walk, even for us two older women with medical conditions. We arrived at the Octopus tree after a nice little walk and WOW!!! This tree is magnificent. I am happy they have it fenced off to help preserve it. Did you know that this is not really a tree at all? It has no main trunk and these limbs that are growing upwards are considered trunks but started out as branches on a tree that is only a gnarled mass that the trunks grow out of. It really is an amazing thing to see. And the nearby view of the coastline was awesome, especially in that fog that day. I suggest that if you are looking fo a fun place to visit, camp or ride horses you visit this area of Oregon Coast. ...
Read moreI truly love the Octopus tree as well as Cape Meres Light House. Both are beautiful and amazing. The views from there are stunning. Unfortunately, this is another place I never had to worry about with walking around for I am fully mobile. I didn’t think anything about it when I brought my sister who walks with a cane. It is a steep walk down and back up from the Light House. When it came to see the tree, she just didn’t have it in her and I felt so horrible about that. Do think about it if you have issues with walking or bringing someone who does. I think if someone was in a wheelchair and someone with strength can push them up the steep path, you should be okay. It would be a workout...
Read moreThe Octopus Tree in Tillamook is such a unique and beautiful natural wonder! The short hike up to the tree is easy and scenic, with amazing views of the coastline along the way. When you finally see the tree, it really takes your breath away—its shape is unlike anything I've seen before. It’s massive, with branches that curve out like giant arms, which makes it look like a tree from a fairytale or a fantasy movie.
There’s also some interesting history behind it, which makes the visit even more special. I’m really glad I made the stop—if you’re in the area, it’s absolutely worth the visit. Peaceful, inspiring, and a great photo...
