They may advertise this as a fun and leisurelyevent, and on the right cart im sure it is. Unfortunately all 4 of the athletic 20 year olds in my group were feeling the burn in our legs when doing the bay city ride. We realized very quickly that the bike was extremely difficult to pedal, we could not coast because the brakes were dragging, and it made an extremely loud squeaking noise the entire time it was moving. When we brought this to the attention of the guides, they seemed extremely unprepared (no tools, no real attempts to remedy the situation) and unknowledgeable about how the bikes even worked. we made the comment to switch carts with the guides and he laughed so i guess he thought that was a joke. someone in my group ended up fixing it the best he could. (aka taking the breaks completely off, which the guides also didnt seem to care) once the breaks were completely removed we were able to really enjoy what little of the event we had left. when i tried reaching out to customer service, i was told that “maybe im not as athletic as i think” im 22 years old, i hike regularly and work on my feet everyday. i weigh 130 pounds and i my legs were BURNING. Its the day after now and im so sore and just really disappointed in my experience and this company’s lack of concern for its customers. This is a really cool thing to do but be prepared for anything but “light weight carts” and...
Read moreWent out with family and friends for my birthday to try the railbikes, and unfortunately, there was a thunderstorm starting and visible lightning in the bay. I get it, it's the Oregon Coast, rain happens...but lightning was a danger we didn't want to risk (for us or the employees). The two guides told us they received a call from HQ that it was up to us whether we wanted to go out or not. Waited a half hour to see if it was clearing up, and it only started raining and had more lightning. Of course, several hours later the weather was fine.
The guides said usually they do not cancel or refund for rain, but lightning was a safety problem so that it would be fine to reschedule or get a refund. Once we finally got ahold of the business a few days later, they were incredibly rude to my wife, asking "what refund she thought she deserved" for cancelling and that we should have put up with a "little bit of drizzle" if we wanted to not lose money (despite the fact that the guides said they received a call from their supervisors about the lightning being an issue). No offer to simply reschedule another day.
They ultimately said they'd throw us a few gift certificates for the trouble, but after that whole interaction, I do not have interest in giving them any...
Read moreGrueling! I'm in pretty good shape and exercise every day. This was basically like riding a bicycle in first gear uphill for 3 hours over 12 miles. They should really set up rules because you may be paired up with random people in your cart that are too young or cannot pedal. It really needs four adults to make it move right without putting all the work on a few people. Also they don't maintain the carts. None of the brakes work so you slam into other carts. The railroad has issues at the street crossings, as our cart went off the track. After that, the guides helped each cart go across the crossings. The landscape was maintained in some areas but many areas had you pedaling over tall weeds. Only good thing was the guides were nice. Oh, and the views were nice but most of the time I was too busy grinding away at the pedals...
