ATTENTION ANYONE WHO READS REVIEWS In regard to "the Mook at Alderbrook" Please dis regard any previous reviews of Alderbrook Golf Course. Because things have changed in a BIG Way. Let me tell you a little about what is happening there. A couple of years ago, overnight a sign appeared on the gate, "Closed Indefinitely". With no explanation of why. Very soon the word spread, the owner, and a bad one at that wanted to subdivide and build housing. Thru several community meetings it was discovered that sub dividing could not happen because of zoning. Then a miracle happened after nearly one and a half years of Tillamook County not having an 18 hole golf course. A visionary local, born and raised in Tillamook was able to put together two or three others who saw the possibilities of, pardon the pun, but a jewel in the ruff. Nearly a hundred year old golf course, which for recent years had been owned by someone who did not like golfers, along with mismanagement ran away most of the golfing community. And the course became quite the joke. Well, Patrick Zweifel had that vision. He and his partners took over ownership in January 2023, re opening April 1st. Working thru this winter, with lots of rain, and three snow events, one of which measured 10-12 inches. The staff has done wonders to the course, un keeped greens are almost 100% again, trees have been limbed high enough to let more sunshine on the fairways, greens also. Bases of trees are keeped clean and grass free, 99% of the ruff is mowed, ( lot easier to find your ball for those who can't always be in the fairways ) l live only a block away and see the staff out almost before daylight everyday working diligently on the course. Planting, manicuring the bunkers, mowing and caring for the greens. The Pro Shop is now managed and well staffed with a very, very friendly, courteous group of employees who unlike the previous, care about golfers and do anything possible to make "the Mook" experience one to remember. And the pro shop is quickly becoming a place for golf accessories, shoes, hats, balls, etc. And definately, without a doubt, the "Bunker Grill and Bar" is serving fantastic food and libations. Overnight it has become the best in the county. Opens at 7:00 am, have a great breakfast, play 18 on the Mook, relax after with a cool one sitting on the upstairs patio, or inside with a wonderful view of the course. The Mook, will become the jewel of the northwest Oregon Coast...
Read moreFirst time visitor, so an unbiased review. I have mixed feelings about the course. The clubhouse is great and very accommodating staff. My wife and I arrived impromptu without a tee time (mid-day weekday) and the gentleman working the pro shop got us on within the hour. Lunch was good. The course itself has a couple of unusual holes, is very nice looking, with a lot of beautiful landscaping, and in overall good shape. You can tell a lot of work has gone into it. However, the greens really are an issue for the recreational golfer (I'm a 16 handicap). Some are on the smallish side, most are impossible to hold even with a good wedge shot in. No level ground around many greens - if not on green or collar it drops off a steep side. Unusually bumpy/uneven fairways and many small ditches throughout the course - fine if you play there regularly but not so much for an unknowing visitor. The rental cart, although very cool with a bunch of street legal bells & whistles, had low profile tires and no suspension - made for Surprise AZ streets or a golf community, not a bumpy PNW course. This became downright frustrating and painful. Bring the mosquito repellant, you're gonna need it on the back 9. Overall equal amounts of enjoyable and not...
Read moreThe Mook is a lovely course. I'm a novice golf-mom (my kids are learning to play but I don't play at all) and my husband enjoys the sport. We brought them out to play 9 holes while on vacation and we all really enjoyed the beautiful views and the friendly staff. With long summer days we were able to get a tee time after 4 pm so we wouldn't feel rushed for holding up serious golfers behind us (something I worry about every time we play back home, honestly). I've escorted my kids on some other golf courses which weren't nearly so pretty or in such good condition. I can't speak authoritatively about a lot of the golf experience, but we were all happy with the rental clubs (new but heavy so be prepared), the driving range bays (not muddy like some I've been on), the grass on the greens, and the overall experience. I was glad to have a cart since it would have been a bit long to walk with kids - and glad the cart had enough pep to get up the hills. I think they're re-building a historic course so some areas have new plant growth that's still coming in, but they're turning it into a real gem that's worth a visit on your...
