I just don't know where to begin. As soon as you get out of your car you can feel the peace and serenity surrounding you. The grounds are magnificent and the church itself could not be more beautiful. We stopped in the shop and were met by Father Peter who remembered we had been there last year. He us a lovely and gracious man and being in his company is such a pleasure. I only wish we lived there year round so we could enjoy the community more fully. If you are in the area it would benefit you to stop in and visit.

The church is amazing....strong echoes of European Gothic and Renaissance cathedrals, but with appropriate modern elements. Colors, symbols, renderings of scriptural stories uniquely conceived, and all by international artists. The thing is to find the parking and enter the buildings....Google maps is incorrect about the former and handicap accessibility was a challenge for the latter...no parking close to the entrance for wheelchair entry. BUT! We called from the car, were directed to parking, a golf cart was dispatched for a ride, and a wheelchair brought to me. The church is not open for independent drop-ins. A member must unlock it and accompany the visitors. The hours for tours seem more flexible than the site listing specifies. Starting with that phone call, and including half a dozen community members we met, all were cooly cordial. Vigilant? Polite introverts? Classic New Englanders of white, educated backgrounds? I noted on their website an offer for individual retreats...at a recommended rate of $400 a night with 3 meals. A photo shows plating of ample food along the lines of restaurants with 3 or more stars. Maybe that's Benedictine hospitality with a spa-like twist...

My husband and I visited this church a few years ago due to our love of art and architecture. We were given a great tour and told about the life/community of those who live on campus. It seemed extreme to give up all your things, take an oath of poverty and potentially raise children like that. Was not surprised to see one of its past members engaging in extremest activities in DC over Gaza. Likely won’t be returning, recommending...
