Well we had no idea that the Bay side has such extreme low tide untill we got there and it looked like a post apocalyptic scene with the the ocean dried up. Apparently the Brewster tidal flats are the largest in all of North America. The sand went out for miles, and we could barely see the ocean on the horizon, with people walking out so far, that they looked like tiny dots. While it was cool to see something like this, we did come here on vacation and were looking to actually swim. People were literally laying in puddles that were left over. Being there on a hot day and not being able to go in the water was incredibly disappointing and uncomfortable. We've been coming to the Cape for 20 years and never had this happen, since we always stayed on the Ocean side. Lesson learned. On the plus side, they have bathrooms (close at 5) and a snack bar (probably closes at 5 too, but check).

Skaket Beach is one of my favorite spots on the Cape. They do a great job limiting the number of people allowed in at a time, which means even during peak hours you actually have space to breathe and see the ocean. No sardine-style beach days here. At low tide, you can walk out for what feels like forever, probably close to a mile, and explore all these little tide pools. It’s perfect for kids (and let’s be honest, fun for adults too) with tons of shells and cool little sea creatures to check out. They’ve got clean bathrooms, a rinse-off shower, and even a food stand, which makes it super convenient for families. It is a little pricier to get in at $32.50 for the day, but honestly, it’s worth it for the space, the views, and the overall experience. If you’re looking for a beach day where you can relax, let the kids run wild, and still have access to all the basics, this is it.

Family of 5 Review - Love this beach! Arrived at 10:10 and parking was very open (likely due to the whipping wind and clouds). At low tide the beach extends for what seems like an eternity! High tide doesn’t leave tons of powder to setup on. $30 to park - we always to go Nauset later in the day for the same pass. Has a snack shack with killer onion rings, decent rest rooms, and modest amount of parking. We walked down the right side of the beach to an estuary inlet where we caught quite a few crabs, hermit crabs, and snails. The sand is super soft and powdery. Great for making sand castles and playing in. Highly recommend this beach for families and especially those with young kids due to the low water depth at low tide, tide pools, and small waves. Enjoy!
