Beach Ottumwa — Attraction in Ottumwa

If I could have given this place no stars I would have! I drove from out of state to visit family in Ottumwa and only had a couple days to spend with everyone so we unfortunately decided to make a day trip to the beach! Most of the lifeguards were EXTREMELY rude to the kids, to the point I had to get a manager or someone would have been publicly embarrassed because I don’t talk to the children in the family in a disrespectful manner and I will be d*med if I let someone talk to them with disrespect and with such hate! The entire day the lifeguards looked like they absolutely HATED their job. Eye rolling, blowing the whistle to the point their faces matched their red swimming suit without verbally explaining to the kids WHY they are having the whistle blown at them. Instead of explaining to the children what they shouldn’t be doing, it was yelled at them with more eye rolling, mean look on their faces and a total lack of patience! A lot of the kids who were being yelled at literally YELLED at to the point of trying to be intimidated were children under 10 the youngest being 5!!!! I don’t think I seen one lifeguard smile today! If you hate your job that bad, quit! It’s simple! Families go to have a good time, but I seen so many adults mad at how their children were being treated! In my opinion someone with that low of patience and maturity and lack of respect for that job position DOES NOT need to be looking after the lives and safety of others! Next trip down, I will not be taking my nieces and nephew here, I will gladly make the extra drive out of town!...

We were extremely disappointed to pay 24.00 to get in and then another 4.00 to rent tubes for the wave pool on Saturday, only to find out the wave pool was out of order for the day. Seems this should have been told to us and every other person that was there BEFORE we paid admission, so we could have made the choice to spend our money elsewhere. So I called today and asked to speak to a manager, who basically said oh someone must have forgot to put the sign up stating the wave pool was out of order for the day. No apology, no offer to make any compensation for the money we wasted. We have been going to The Beach for years. Very very disappointed in your management and your facility for literally ripping us off. It was bad enough you let us pay the admission costs without telling us the wave pool was not working, but then the person renting the tubes didn't bother to tell us either. So your poor ability to manage the facility cost my family 28.00 and apparently, you could care less. We will not be returning, and might I suggest you hire someone a bit more capable to...

Recently paid to have my son's birthday party here and it just was not what we paid for. First off, we got there at 3pm and were told "oh by the way we are closing at 5pm". The park is supposed to be open until 8pm and not a single person called to let me know of the change of hours. In fact, when we got there the front desk said "oh we weren't sure you were coming". You pay when you book the party - so I'm not sure why we wouldn't be showing up. Furthermore, the website clearly states the inflatable obstacle course is in the pool Sundays, which happens to be my son's favorite thing they have - but it was not in the pool. I was extremely dissatisfied with the entire situation and was offered to leave my contact information at the front desk so the head manager could call me once in office. It has been two weeks and no one has called. I have called and left two voicemails requesting someone call me. We will still go to The Beach to swim since there isn't really other options around here - but I will never be using them for birthday...
