I originally came to this hotel by the recommendation of a client. I normally stay at Marriott and Hilton properties but alas Ottumwa doesn't have any. :(. I checked in late and was very tired. The front desk attendant was beyond helpful and I felt as if I was going to have a pleasant stay in which I did. The steak restaurant was nice and the manager came over to my table and was genuinely pleasant. So far so good. :). NOW THE BAD: I travel for a living so I was in a rush and forgot to make my reservation for a room here. That's on me. When I arrived I was greeted by a new hire and the GM. The new hire was very pleasant but the GM was rude and condescending. She was borderline disrespectful. I do know that she will read this and YES you knew you were! I would call out your name like the other complaints about you on here and since you were so kind enough (sarcasm) to give me your business card when I asked for it because you knew I wasn't happy with your conduct but clearly you didn't care but I will spare calling your name out nationwide. What happened. Well you greeted me as if I was a transient since YES admittedly I forgot to reserve a room. Marriott would have skipped the rudeness and just found me a room. You were condescending because you acted as if I didn't have the means to pay for the room. Saying TWICE in a direct manner with a condescending tone. "YOU WILL NEED A LICENSE AND CREDIT CARD!" As if I didn't have either. You acted as if I were homeless asking me if my address was correct on my license?! Never had that question before even when I stayed at your property the first time and NEVER at ANY other hotel chains. To be honest I am not accustomed to being treated like that so I was taken aback. You were so condescending in fact that I just kept looking at you and said "Is there a problem?!" In retrospect I wish I wasn't so road fatigued because I would have just walked out and wrote a formal complaint letter to corporate. Would I stay here again?.....what do you think my YouTube followers who also follow my Yelp reviews. As most of you know that I am a soldier who was wounded in service for my country. All you Veterans nation wide know me and supported me when I had iron clad proven issues with a major jewelry store chain and the largest wireless company in America they both acquiesced with your support, thank you! I never have said this before but I say now that this GM is a bigot and clearly has issues even when she told me to have a nice stay it was condescending. Respectfully GM respect your guest leave any personal bigotry you have at your home. There is no room in the service industry for "KARENS" respectfully speaking. FYI GM you do NOT want to escalate this with me. I read the other complaints about YOU on here and other review sites. I have talked to clients in Ottumwa about my experience here. Read moreWe booked the room that had a 2nd room with a pull-out couch and a kitchen. It worked great! The kids slept on the pull-out. The kitchen was well stocked, we used a pot to make ramen noodles and they even had wine glasses. We had a full tub for baths for the kids. The bed was super comfey! They had 6 pillows that ranged from firm to soft which was nice to choose from!
The breakfast was great! Each day they had something new, an omelet, chicken and waffles, and biscuits and gravy. And then they had bagels, cereal, yogurt, etc every day. They have a Starbucks coffee bar that was always fresh and great! The pool area was warm (although the towels were toddler size).
The restaurant/bar was great! Although it's a high end steakhouse, so if that's out of your budget, don't plan to go there.

Read moreOverall, this is a good place to stay. It’s new and largely clean and, compared to the Hampton Inn I usually stay at, far superior. The rooms are spacious yet unfortunately my bathtub and bathroom floor were covered in black hair (I’m blonde). I mentioned this to the front desk and was told she’d pass on the note to housekeeping but no apology and I had to clean it myself in order to bathe. This is so basic it’s important to get right. The steakhouse is nice, a little overpriced for what it is and it appears to gets rowdy, and unfortunately you can’t charge to the room. Service in there is excellent though.
