Update. I returned to the Adobe 4 months later with our oldest grandson. Much better and change my score to 5 stars. My wife and grandson got the tour. Very informative. They really enjoyed it. I stayed outside because I was having back issues that day. But it was great to see my wife and grandson enjoy the history. So I changed my score to 3 to 5 stars. Everyone is entitled to an off day.
My previous post back in Aug 2022....
I grew up in Pacifica I remember the Adobe just sitting there surround by ball fields in the 60s where I played baseball. Thought I stop by since I haven't seen it in 45yrs. Took my grand children there excited that they rehab the Adobe and have a information building. Sadly the people seemed a little unorganized and didn't get much info for my grandchildren. We were the only ones there. Now it was a weekday maybe that was the issue or they were changing exhibits. Don't really know. But my wife and I showed the Adobe to our grandkids. I told them story's that I remember. But I'm not sure my facts are right. Anyways. It worth the stop to see the Adobe. For that alone 3 stars. I hope I just went at a bad time because the potential there is great. Having lived near Vallejo Adobe and seen their exhibit. Would be nice to see Pacifica do something like that for Sanchez Adobe. And on another topic. Pacifica have more on the Shore Line Railroad and how they cut out for the tracks along devil slide, now that you can now walk on sections of the old road ect.. Anyways to me it was nice to see the Adobe. I wish...
Read moreBeen visiting here off and on since I was a kid and now I'm able to bring my 3 year old son here! :) I'm surprised not many people seem to know about this place, as it is not too far back into Linda Mar and isn't far from the shopping center either...maybe a 5ish minute drive tops? Granted I haven't been here in God knows how long but they seem to have added and remodeled somethings. First off there is now like a big field that also has some sort of small building that looks like maybe for classes or something I'm not quite sure. But a few feet away from there is a bathroom and it's nice and clean. There is plenty of parking in the lot and it looks like they made even more room. But like I said I haven't been here in years so I'm not sure about some of these things and how new they are but I surely don't remember them? If you walk all the way to the back of the field (south) there's a sign with some info about the Ohlone Native American tribe that inhabited the area all around Pacifica and most of the Bay Area. It's super cool and interesting to see the Adobe and learn about the Natives and overall history of the Adobe and how it came to be! It's cool to see something so old...
Read moreWe came to Sanchez Adobe Park on a 4th grade field trip to learn about early settlers to this part of California and to study how they lived. Can you imagine owning 9000 acres of San Mateo County real estate? The owners of this place worked hard, raised their family, and occasionally had parties that would last for days. It's truly Little House on the Prairie but Northern California style. The kids learned how to grind corn, rope a steer, dip candles, and make adobe bricks. Of course they loved making the adobe bricks, which involved being barefoot in a muddy pit. Hands-on (feet in?) learning is the best and I'm grateful for the San Mateo Historical Society and places like Sanchez Adobe. And our...
