Worth a 1 day trip to the San Jacinto Mountain Peak... Me and my wife, along with a few of our friends, went to Palm Springs oon 31st Dec 2016 to hike on the snow covered San Jacinto Mountain peak. You have to take a tramway/ropeway from the base of the peak. On your way to the peak base you would find the Palm Springs Visitor Center (almost 4 miles before the tramway parking at the mountain base). Honestly, I did not have many expectations from this trip, but this turned out to be one of the good trips I have had in 2016. Once you reach the mountain base, you park your cars (parking costs $5 per vehicle) and take a bus to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway center for the tramway tickets. tickets cost $25 per person for a round trip. Once on the mountain peak, you can take numerous hikes on the peak and get beautiful and serene views from the peak vista points during your hikes. We took a small 2 mile hike before heading back down to the base. The snow on the peak made the hike even more adventurous and beautiful. All in all, worth a 1 day visit with friends and family... Would like to visit again during...
Read moreToday, we drove from DHS to the visitor center to pick up some advertising material of local businesses we can recommend highly due to our own experiences visiting the area for a decade now. We took 3 prints each of 11 restaurants and tours offered for our newly bought own VRBO property in the area. We got approached by an obviously upset employee, he immediately violated my social space by literally being face to face with me and loudly addressed that "I make sure not to take too much". They have a hard time to get those and if everyone that has a short term rental property would behave that badly they would run out if it. Excuse me, until today I thought it's the purpose of visitor centers to distribute material to attract more people. First time in my long Globetrotter life that I felt expelled from a visitor center. I would hope everyone who has the opportunity to invite guests to the area takes advantage of those wonderful...
Read moreIn terms of a historical Landmark the place Is awesome the site used to be a 1965 gas station built out of steel beams and Metal Corrugated roofing. Really it was a work of art. The landscape is gorgeous. Looks man-made but clearly it's not. But the visitor center itself is closed. The bathrooms are also closed. Which is very inconvenient considering we just drove through the desert to get to a bathroom and the first place we come to which is the Palm Springs visitor center is closed. I'm going to give the visitor center a 3 because I know that if they were open from the looks of things the gift shop would be thriving. And the bathrooms would be clean. I did notice while I was there that the landscape Maintenance was working so I know they're still keeping up on emptying the trash and things like that. So...
