This park deserve 5 stars but I would like to share my 1st experience. First off, warning...when you approach the school prior to park entrance, plz slow down because when you hit speed bump 1 of 2, you & your car w go flying up in air like the 'Dukes of Hazard!' Secondly, on weekends I see why the area where steps meet the river gets over crowded - this area is small not what I had imagined. If you are taking COVID precautions, on weekends you will not enjoy the steps that lead to river because it is not possible to social distance in such a small area with kids enjoying themselves. Funny story, I arrived w my iced coffee in hand, saw mounds of people but sat down anyway on step in front if the river. The Best view was of families & pets enjoying the river! Then the unthinkable happened... 2 dogs ran out of the river next to me & gave me a bath by shaking off water not once but 3 times - let me tell you, the smell was not pleasant Ha! Also, good idea to wear bug repellant because the ghost gnats are persistent little buggers, I swear, you don't see'em and before you know it, they're up in your nose. This is a nice park that I plan on enjoying this fall when there's little to no crowd & gnats. As for the reviews stating that this park is a hidden gem hmmmmm... "Hidden" nope, not at all, the parking lot was completely full, the nice thing is that no matter what time you arrive by car there will be someone leaving so you'll have a parking space. A "Gem", yes this is a great park with an awesome playground, picnic areas, clean rest rooms, and nice volley ball net. Don't forget to slow down when you pass...
Read moreThis park is an Metro ATL staple. I've been going there since the 80's. If you like trekking manageable flowing river beds or have never done such thing I highly recommend this park. Sandals or water shoes a must. Walking sticks are always handy. If you have a dog that likes water this is a great place just be mindful of keeping them on a leash because there is always someone there that doesn't and they are usually the type dog and owner combo that needs a leash. If you enter on the Gwinnett side there is many well positioned dry rocks to spread a blanket or set a chair and cooler. No alcohol so be mindful. Not that I haven't ever broken that rule/ law but I can tell you first hand that the DNR does watch the river from the woods and with binoculars. Same goes with fishing. If you are over 16 you will need to have a fishing license ON YOU. Not in your car or at home or in the wife's purse and she's in the bathroom.....buy the complete license with trout stamp and saltwater permits. The hooch is known for trout fishing. On the Fulton side there is a boat launch so the entry into the river is rather deep there but in the middle is plenty of ankle deep water area, large dry rocks for base station and a nice little island with plenty of shade and dry area for eating lunch or...
