As a 20-something who returned to riding after years of being out of the saddle, I was nervous about finding a barn that would accommodate an adult rider. I am so fortunate to have found Northwestern Stables. The barn is a true community; bringing veteran horse owners and first-time riders together. The instructors are avid riders themselves and are knowledgeable, patient and supportive! I have had the pleasure of taking lessons from three different instructors and each brings a different perspective to the sport. The facility itself is beautiful; situated in the picturesque mouth of Fairmount Park. There is both a large indoor and outdoor ring equipped with jumps. Contrary to a previous review, the horses are LOVED by everyone who both works and rides at the facility. Several of the horses are retired off-the-track racehorses whose lives would undoubtedly have taken a different route if Northwestern hadn't taken them in and given them a good home. The barn is a non-profit facility so several times a year they hold community fundraisers for the sole purpose of raising money to put back into the barn and the horses. In recent years the barn expanded its paddock space so the horses are given more turnout than before. Most of the horses are also exercised/schooled on a daily basis. I can't say enough positive things about this barn. I have learned so much here, particularly from head trainer Kathy. Several of her students show and place in Associated Horse Shows. So rest assured, you will learn a lot here and you will learn the correct ways to hack and jump as well as basic horsemanship skills. Going to Northwestern Stables is the highlight of my week. ...

The community here is welcoming and supportive ,from fellow boarders to instructors, and it truly feels like a second home. The location in Fairmount Park is gorgeous, with plenty of trails and a peaceful setting that makes every ride special. My horses are happy and thriving here, and I’m so grateful to be part of this...
Read moreThe reviews for this place are frightening. I couldn’t believe that the owner literally told one of the individuals who gave a review that they searched their database all the way back to 2011 & couldn’t find that persons name as a way to justify that the individual had a horrific experience.
The name I use on Google is my middle and last name so I wouldn’t be found in anyones “database” therefore if you’re unprofessional enough to ASSUME this is the name on my ID than something’s truly wrong here. Many of us try to protect our identity as much as possible so that right there was proof enough for me that I need to stay away.
So very...
