After viewing the Pioneer Woman statue we went into the museum proper to see what was on exhibit. We were met at the front desk by a gentleman who accepted our payment and then told us about a few of the artifacts in the first room. We walked from room to room reading the placards on the wall and viewing the artifacts from a bygone age. Very interesting was the fact the fellow had found an old movie roll in a coffee can and had it developed to find out it was a newsreel from when the statue was uncovered back in 1932. The area looks nothing like it did back then and the crowd of people was twice the population of the town itself. When it was time to go we could not find the gentleman who accepted our money. The wife wanted to purchase a tshirt from the small gift shop area. I went looking and found a lady sitting in the back. When I called to her she looked up and went back to doing whatever she was doing on her phone. So perhaps a tshirt from a different museum awaits? We...
Read moreThe pioneer woman museum and visitor center sits directly behind the statue that was erected in the 1930s. The visitor center seems to be loosely organized around women's experiences on the plains, and while it doesn't have an overall theme it doesn't excellent job of representing various experiences from the time of settlement on. each of the individual areas is wall supplied with historical materials and video collections of individual experiences. The unveiling of the statue video with a speech by Will Rogers was in surprisingly good condition considering that it's 90 years old. Will Rogers speech was quite dry but humorous as expected. The collected antiques and documentation was more than worth the price of entry. The clerk at the front desk was very friendly and...
Read moreI thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Pioneer Woman Museum. The exhibits are well thought out and informative. The facility is beautiful and inviting. I found the staff to be very welcoming, and eager to answer any questions you may have. Keith, the resident historical interpretor was especially helpful and taught me more then I ever could have expected from a single visit! A great stop for anyone interested to learn more about the local history. They focus most of their exhibits through the lens of women who have helped to shape the local, state, and federal social and political landscape. Very informative and absolutely...
