We stayed in spot #34 right under a huge Vine Maple with a nice view of the water. We got in on Sunday 7/14 set up, we have a 5th wheel, and went exploring. We brought our 6 year old granddaughter and we had a wonderful time, got back fixed dinner, roasted marshmallows and settled in for a quiet evening. Unfortunately the tent campers in space #42 got in rather late, but still in light and all H--l broke loose! They were chopping down some of the foliage, I did talk with the camp host and let him know, he did go over but don't know the outcome. Then the evening was one loud drinking party, which around 3:30am turned ugly, calling each other the "F" word and yelling, needless to say we did not get much sleep, so we were a bit cranky for our day, they slept in and were gone for most of the day. They got back with a truck load of wood and began chopping and getting ready for party #2 all-nighter, again. Our neighbors #33 came over and asked us if we were disturbed last night as they were. They complained about 12:30AM and another person complained, looked like we were in for another night of the same. Went to the camp host again and this time he went over and talked with the people, again, but this time the noise was down and we had a good night sleep. We packed up in the morning and apparently someone tampered with our septic drain so it was a huge mess for us at the dump station! This is not a good environment for children, if they allow people like the ones in #42 to terrorize people like us who follow the rules and just want to have a good time, but not at the expense of others. WE WILL...
Read moreI stayed in spot 51 with a view of the ocean. It was just amazing. So much going on, but still private. There are plenty of bathrooms and showers so there's only waiting during the really busy hours around breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lots of room for the kids to play and wooded areas to go hiking. And there are firepits for each of the RV lots and picnic tables. I'm not positive about the camping section, but it looked about the same. Not all of the areas are private, but late at night with the deer and other animals running around, that's a comfort. If you're going to camp during the busy season, be sure and reserve your spot 14 days in advance! There are surprisingly few spaces for anyone who just shows up. But it is worth it. And if you care to explore the surrounding towns during the day, you can pull out and leave as long as you come back before 10pm and leave evidence that your campsite is still taken.
The bathrooms are free, but the showers are a quarter for 2 mins so bring plenty of quarters! My nightly stay was $22 for being out of the county. Well worth it! Check out is noon. The info above is correct as of August 2013. No guarantees the prices are the...
Read moreOver the years, I used to “drag” my kids into the car to explore the state with me. Sometimes we found hidden gems, other times we just drove around and ended up with nothing more than some quality time and a few laughs. But one day, we stumbled across Salt Creek—and that was it. We loved it immediately and it quickly became one of our go-to spots.
The park is absolutely beautiful. You'll find sweeping views, a peaceful atmosphere, and tons of wildlife—bald eagles overhead, sea life clinging to the island wall and rocks, and some of the best water views around. There's a nice beach here too—but fair warning, it’s connected to a massive stretch of private beachfront. And if you so much as glance in that direction too long, security might appear out of nowhere to kindly (or not-so-kindly) remind you to look away. That part is a bit frustrating—feels strange that someone can own that much coastline.
Still, I won’t dock the park for it. Salt Creek remains one of my favorite places to visit with my kids. Whether you’re here to walk, explore, or just sit and take it all in, it’s a gem...
