Beautiful venue, but poorly maintained A/C ruined our reception
In late June of 2015, we were married on the beach adjacent to the Wilbur Boat House. We paid $1,491 to rent the boathouse from 8:00 am – 10:00 PM for the reception. The wedding was at 2:00 and, after taking pictures, we, the bride and groom, arrived to the boathouse at 4:00 to find that the AC was not working. The High temp for the day was 86 Degrees. Upon arriving, I was forced to, rather than enjoying my reception, leave messages with someone from the Boathouse and speak to them when they called me back to arrange repairs for the A/C. It took 1 hour for the repair man to arrive and 1 hour for the repair. By this time (6:00) ¾ of the guests had left because of the unbearable heat in the boathouse. The lack of proper maintenance of the boathouse’s AC ruined our wedding reception. A few weeks later, having not received our damage deposit back, I emailed them and requested that a portion of our $1,491 be returned. I was told: “I am very sorry to hear that many of your wedding guests had to leave early due to the AC situation. You should be receiving your $300 damage deposit back any day now. Our accountant is retired and has been traveling some, but I believe that he has been home this past week and working on boathouse paperwork. I did forward your email to the President of the Board for the Boathouse. We have a Board meeting coming up next Monday evening, 07/13. I am sure that the Board will discuss your situation then, and I will let you know what they decide on.” After more than a month of no contact, we were told that they did not plan to reimburse us any of our money, and they believe that a 2 hour window with no A/C in the middle of the reception...
Read moreThe Boathouse was the most beautiful wedding venue ever. My daughter’s day was perfect. You will not find a better person to work with than the manager Rhonda. She is a delight and goes above and beyond. Since parking is limited there is extra parking at the end of the street. It’s about a three to four minute walk. We rented a golf cart from Daytona Jeep and Golf Cart which was a life saver and came recommended from another reviewer. Because my daughter got married over spring break there was something going on at the beach and the parking lot was full which pushed things back a bit but we made it work. I would also recommend renting the Wilbur boathouse tent from above all tents. It will double your venue space and we were able to put our bar and food buffet out on the deck. There is a kitchen which my daughter and the bridesmaids used to dress in. We were able to get in at 8 am and decorate. It is important to clean up and be out by 11:00 pm as this is a rule due to being in a residential neighborhood. I think lastly I would recommend hiring a dedicated clean up crew as it can be a little overwhelming after you are tired from a full day of activities. Luckily for me I only have one daughter but I would highly recommend to anyone else looking to plan your own small or modest wedding. We had...
Read moreThis building is a nice place to have a small wedding, reception or meeting. The AC unit cools the building quickly but is rather loud. And the building does not have the greatest acoustics. The bathrooms are adequate for the size building and the number of people that would be utilizing it. There's a nice dock that meanders out towards the Intercoastal Waterway. The dock is not suitable for Mooring boats. It is just a view /...
