I loved the park, and the Redwood trees (I'm pretty sure the majority were Redwoods), visiting in mid July. It was clean and looked fairly well maintained troughout.from what I could see.
It was a great way to escape the afternoon heat, as it cool in the shaded forested parts (most of the park from what I could see), while the rest of Portland was in the 90s. You want to bring your own water, fountains were few and far between, at least on the Disc Golf course from what I could tell.
I was here with a friend while waiting for a flight out in the evening and picking up 18 holes of Disc Golf. Im not big on Disc Golfer but I still loved the course, eventhough the groups playing kind of backed up on each other.
It was a Saturday afternoon so the volume of people on the course was not unexpected. Everyone we ran into was pleasant and we all managed to wait patiently or let each other play through.
There looked like a lot of picnic space along the edges, plus some public tennis courts, and at least one basketball court.
Parking was mostly street parking from what I could see, and we drove down past a dozen cars on each side of the residential street before finding a spot.
There were several other spaces down the block and people seemed to be coming and going fairly regularly, but it might be worth a note to get there earlier than when you plan on weekends and busy times to give yourself some time to find a parking space.
Overall it was a very charming and a great way to kill a couple of hours outside for an afternoon. I wish all parks were like this one, spacious yet under a canopy of a large...
Read morePier Park is an urban forest marvel. I was astounded by the old growth trees. The deep shade provided by its tall, thick and serene canopy. For light hiking, walk and certainly frisbee golf this is the place to be. In a word, space is the key word of Pier Park. We ran into very large parties with plenty of physical area in between. Keeping in mind, how old the park is, some modern amenities are missing. A major missing amenity is park benches. If you are looking to take a quick break to catch your breath along your walking path you won't find a bench nearby. Golf frisbee folks fare much better. Despite too few bathrooms, and park benches Pier Park charm wins out. Pier park is not just old, it's historic. You can feel it the minute you step from the street into it's mature canopy. It's a natural wonder and highly...
Read moreWe come here for disc golf. This is one of the most beautiful parks in Portland. The sunlight streaming through gigantic evergreen trees is awesome. Nice mix of holes to score on and some challenging ones as well. Every hole is a par 3. Baskets are fine, could probably use some maintenance but not bad. Only reason this course doesn't get 5 stars is it's SO crowded. Tons of very large groups, new players, and families. Unfortunately this course attracts people who litter, blast bluetooth speakers, drink excessively, and lack etiquette. Inevitably people start skipping holes and course jumping makes rounds take forever. Gets so crowded on the weekends and afternoons be prepared to wait multiple minutes between holes. An 18 hole round that takes 2 hours can easily...
