We came too late to catch the sunset. Oops! We did walk out onto the boat ramp and enjoy the cooler breeze as we observed lightning in the distance. Taking a small stroll, We found ourselves walking up a sandy trail before it turned to solid rock. It felt nice to climb over where the weather had worn its own groove into the Rocky terrain. Many trees scattered across the surface where they had taken hold as seed years ago and survived in this climate. Who says seed thrown upon a rocky ground will have no yield? They are here as are we. It felt really nice to feel the traction of my shoes, almost gripping the rocks. My body appreciated the light trek and adventure.

With a variety of trails, choose your own level of physical activity at Willow Lake. Do a bit of research before you go, use the map in the parking lot and pay attention to your trail. We didn't do that so much and should have. We were in a carefree mood and ended up going out further and higher than we would have...however, we enjoyed all of it!

Willow lake is the perfect kayaking lake. It's beautiful and has places to get away from everything. Went fishing today after work. No fish, to windy. But got to get a line wet.

Did the full loop. It's rated moderate but gets pretty difficult in spots. A lot of scrambling up and down in the first few miles (if you start to the north). The painted dots help to keep you on track, but there are multiple trails with the dots, so be sure to use the app, too. Bring poles if you're at all unsteady and lots of water as it gets hot. There are long stretches without much shade. Definitely worth it. It's a great hike in a really...
