This place has a lot of great memories and I will cherish them forever. At one time it did say no dogs allowed until I took a chance and noticed other dogs were also there that was 16 years ago when I had my first golden retriever his name was Leo the first. Back then there were many jokes that big and small and that's nice old man that lived directly across the street from the small baseball field decided to make up a calendar of some of the dogs that would go there on a daily basis. My husband and I couldn't mention the word Park without Leo getting all excited because we spent every morning and afternoon there for the eight years that he lived and that was where we took him when we noticed that he was not acting attentively and thought something might be wrong, when we arrived he wasn't himself he didn't jump out of the van and go running around like he was still a little puppy, we went to PetSmart to see the vet where are we were told he had a seizure and the veterinarian called ahead to Ocean State that hospital in East Greenwich we weren't sure what was happening when we arrived they took him in immediately and after 10 minutes told us that he had a tumor growing out of the back of his head oh, we knew what we had to do shall we chat with him while he was given don't even the medication for euthanasia. A year later we had Leo II which by the way he is also 8 years now and thriving and also loves Neuticarnicut. He Loves the park just as much as his contract end so does my grandson Landon who is turning six in a few days and it was soon to become a family place for us all to meet up and run around and play and that includes my father-in-law Geno. Sadly after many years of fun and play there he passed away last December 21st 2019 of natural causes and we lost the heart and soul of our family. So we thought... Then I realized when one family member leaves another comes to step up and because I think because of his presence he holds this family together and that is Leo the second. We don't go there every single day like we used too, we're all getting a little bit old too... I know that I will be there with Leo on the 21st of December go say a prayer for Gino and then run around and play as usual. Maybe one day my grandson will take his children there to play and just maybe still have the dog that loves it as much as...
Read moreI had no idea this place existed and I'm so glad I found it. It really is a hidden gem right in the middle of the city. It is by no means an easy hike. I would categorize it as hard easy to easy intermediate if that even makes sense. We completed probably about 75% of the trails and were done in about an hour and 15 minutes. It's quite hilly and rocky which is both beautiful and a workout. The view overlooking the city at the top put a smile on our faces. My six year old son conquered it even if there was a little whining involved. It had character and the trails were fairly well marked in that you stopped and questioned a couple of times but not enough so that this nervous nelly couldn't figure her way out. I really enjoyed the bridges and boardwalks even if they weren't warranted today since it was so dry. The Mosquitos were ravenous even with our tripled layer of bug spray, but it was definitely an...
Read moreOutside Providence is one of my favorite movies. So when I found out that one of the scenes was filmed here curiosity led me to visit the park. Luckily there are guided tours of the park's trails once a month (check their Facebook page for more info). Being unfamiliar with the park we opted for a tour which was very informative. This is the largest natural forest in Providence! An absolute treasure in an urban area. The views of the city and beyond are spectacular. Watch out and check for ticks on both humans...
