Probably one of the worst experiences of my life. First, you have to walk in seaweed/kelp (which smells very rancid) to the kayack. Once your in the kayack you have to paddle thru all this rancid seaweed and it gets all over you. Then once you get passed that you have to stay in a single filed line with people running into trees and the side, etc. It takes forever to finally get to the bay, and when you get there they tie your kayaks to everyone else's kayaks. They explain how it glows up for like 15 seconds and then they tell you to out your hand in and see the glowing stuff. There was literally nothing glowing there. It is such a scam. And then they only let you paddle around for about 2 minutes before they make you turn back around. Its nothing how they advertise at all, you don't see anything and it's not cook at all. It's straight trash. Not to mention the Mosquitoes. They frucjin whooop you. Make sure to have bug spray if you choose to go to this trash place. Cause your...

PLEASE DO NOT WEAR BUG SPRAY! The name "Mosquito Bay" where the Bio Bay is at, does not reference the fact that there are a lot of mosquitos in the area. It's the name of a pirate ship. When I went, I barely felt any mosquitos. And any type of bug spray, even one drop, kills thousands of the little organisms that make the bay glow.
I've been to the bio-luminescent bay in Jamaica and the one in Vieques is 1000X better in my opinion. Others in my tour had gone to the BioBay in Fajardo and also commented that the one in Vieques is much brighter.
I can't recommend this experience enough.
I went with Melaya Tours in Vieques and had a great experience with a tour guide that really...
Read moreDefinitely go for the transparent-bottomed kayaks. This is the next best thing to swimming in the bay, which is no longer allowed (we were able to do it on a tour 20 years ago). In addition to seeing the luminescence from kayak strokes and a wake (in your boat and others), you are on top of sparking stars throughout. Aloui (spelling?) and Jimmy were excellent guides, not talking too much, helping us acclimate to the dark, informative, and making sure that we enjoyed the experience.
Eduardo and Martinez were big helps getting into and out of the kayaks, and keeping things organized.
Do come prepared to get wet as there is some water in the bottom of the boats. I do suggest a dark night (we went on a new moon) as the luminescence is more visible). There is more light around the bay than I remember 20 years ago, but still dark with a great star and planet show. The bands of milky way are...
