The Lake Needwood Westside Loop, nestled near Derwood, Maryland, is a charming 2.6-mile circuit. This trail is wonderfully beginner-friendly, and I've had the pleasure of experiencing it in all seasons, with each visit leaving me thoroughly satisfied. During my most recent hike, a picturesque summer day graced by gentle rain, I once again marveled at the trail's unique character. On one side of the "loop," you'll find yourself immersed in lush woodlands, with occasional glimpses of the serene lake. While this trail can attract its fair share of hikers, there are plenty of hidden pockets of solitude where you can truly immerse yourself in nature's embrace. Walking this trail feels like a tender embrace from Mother Nature herselfโa feeling I cherish deeply. Please note that the trailhead isn't accessible by public transportation, but you can easily reach it via Uber or your own vehicle. Ample parking is available, ensuring a hassle-free start to your...

There is a parking area on street right next to where you can put your kayak in, a little land area with a bench and some moorings. I got a regional boat pass that covered Lake Needwood and Black Hill Regional as regional parks for Montgomery County and then I did not have to pay fee or go in where they rent boats and could stay out all day. Do not eat the fish here- catch and release- do not let your pets swim here- has the algae- and clean your boat bottom before putting in anywhere else. Nice area to learn and not crowded usually. I did go during the week on...
