BLUF: It's what you do in the North Woods and Rhinelander ... You go see the Hodag. That said, it's the most photogenic and easily accessible Hodag spots in Rhinelander and by far the largest representation of the beast yet not as menacing as others so kid friendly. You gotta stop once if you're within a 30 minute drive IMHO. Pros: easy access, parking, and photographs well. Cons: it's just a statue and a visitors center while other Hodag sculptures are located in riverwalk parks and around other amenities.

We saw this roadside attraction on our way up to Manitowish Waters a few years ago and thought it was such a cute and fun stop. The Hodag store in town is definitely worth a stop as well. We went up north again this year and had to stop to bring the dog to see it, she was a huge fan! It is a cute way to break up a road trip and the town has several "hidden" hodags around that are fun to find!

The Hodag. One of my favorite cryptids. The story is both outrageous, funny and the stuff of storybook legend. I love the way a 100 year old "Prank" can forge the entire future of a town and it's community. The people are friendly the food is excellent and the beer is...well....it's Wisconsin so you figure it out!!

Iconic "photo op" or selfie location when you're visiting or passing through Rhinelander. Take a photo with this mythical beast steeped in playful Americana. Following the tradition of "tall tales" that brought Babe the Blue Ox to life and made him larger than life, the Hodag will also come to life as you tell tale of the Hodag to family and friends. - The Welcome Center is a great place to stretch your legs after a long drive. Clean facility and restrooms plus information kiosk with a concierge happy to answer any questions you may have. Lots of literature regarding Northwoods destinations for lodging, activity, or dining ideas. Welcome Center has limited hours so plan accordingly. *Reward for reading this far. Right off the Welcome Center is the Riverwalk trail where there is a path that will take you down to a boardwalk. Enjoy a leisurely walk following the...
