Suite 239 :(
Myself and now wife stayed at the Quality Inn in Rhinelander, WI for my wedding weekend, and unfortunately, it was not the experience we were promised. Upon arrival, I hit a massive pothole in the parking lot, which nearly threw out my back—not the best way to start a stay. We booked the honeymoon suite months in advance and were assured it would be remodeled. To our disappointment, it was the only room in the entire hotel that wasn’t. Every member of our bridal party had nicer rooms.
Yes, the suite was spacious and had a hot tub, but the tub looked questionable, and there was a disturbing red stain in the middle of the room that resembled blood. The walls had similar splatters, which was unsettling, to say the least. There were two bathrooms in the suite, but one of the toilets didn’t flush properly.
I would have loved to address these issues immediately, but I was in the middle of my wedding. When I finally went down to the front desk, it was to complain about the TV, which wouldn’t work despite my being tech-savvy and spending 45 minutes trying to fix it. Also, there wasn’t an outlet anywhere near my side of the bed, and I had to request an extension cord just to charge my phone. The staff I talked to were helpful with this and understood my concerns—but this was probably preventable by owners.
The rest of the hotel seemed stuck in the 90s, with no notable updates or improvements. For a two-night stay in a “honeymoon suite,” we paid about $320, which seemed steep for the poor quality. If you’re traveling for work and don’t care about the quality, this place might be fine. But for couples looking for romance, I would not recommend this hotel.
Side note: The morning of my wedding, during the continental breakfast, one of our bridesmaids mentioned bringing a little something up to her significant other, who wasn’t feeling well enough to come down. A manager overheard the conversation, disappeared for a bit, and then returned with a passive-aggressive paper sign saying food must not be brought to the rooms. I get that it’s a policy, but instead of having a polite conversation, it was handled in a weirdly indirect way.
To save some time I’m going to leave out the little things. But there is a long long list. And I’m mostly disappointed because I love the underdogs and a hole in wall joint. But...
Read moreThey have begun a much-needed renovation to this hotel. We stayed there just 3 weeks prior and had a lovely, clean room that didn’t feel as outdated as it probably was. This visit was a much different experience. ||We had to make an urgent visit to Rhinelander for a family member, flew most of the day and had to drive 2.5 hours from Green Bay. Exhausted, we arrived and went to our pre-assigned room. When we got to the room, it looked okay but when we tried to lock the door, it wouldn’t lock. We tried for five minutes and realized the lock deadbolt didn’t line up with the door. When we finally got it to lock, it took us another several minutes to get the door to open – very scary if you had to get out in an emergency.||Back to the front desk and explained we couldn’t stay in a room where we either couldn’t lock the deadbolt or, couldn’t open the door easily. The clerk told us she had no other rooms with a king bed and offered an “accessible room.” When I inquired about rooms on the second floor, she stated, “Oh, yes. I have one there, but you’ll have to take your luggage up the stairs.” We were fine with that so headed upstairs with all our bags.||When we arrived at the room, I heard voices, and it sounded like it was coming out of the room we were just assigned. I put my ear to the door and yes, there was a couple in the room already. Thankfully they were talking (It was 10PM by that time) and not sleeping or we would have scared them and us to death. Back downstairs. The only room she could offer was an accessible room with two queen beds. I said we just needed somewhere to sleep; we were ready to collapse. ||The room was in terrible condition, the microwave didn’t work, the roll-in shower had a shower curtain about 3-4 inches from the bottom of the floor and each time you took a shower, you would flood the bathroom. We had to put down several towels to catch the water. We will be coming back in December and have decided to go to a different hotel which is a shame. We do like the location and have good experiences in the past but this one was definitely...
Read moreOur stay at the Rhinelander Quality Inn was less than favorable. The first room we were put in had empty food wrapers in the dresser drawers, a can of athletes foot spray in the bedside stand drawer, an open bag of food in the bathroom vanity drawer and the sheets on the bed had not been changed. They moved us to another room, that was not much better, the tile floor was filthy dirty, but it was 10 o'clock at night and we were tired, I went down to the front desk and she guaranteed me the floor would be cleaned in the morning. My husband was going to get some ice, he opened the ice bucket and someone had cooked something with rice in it. He took it down to the front desk and her comment was, "Do you want a plastic bag for it?" GROSS! The next morning the housekeeper was "cleaning" the room next to ours, I asked her if we were on her list to clean our floor, she responded, "Clean your bathroom." I said no, not the bathroom, we just need the floor cleaned, swept, vacuumed, it is filthy dirty. First she said it was not her room, then she said, she does NOT DO THE FLOORS BECAUSE SHE DOES NOT HAVE TIME WHEN SHE CLEANS THE ROOMS. So I went down to the front desk and no one was there, finally found the guy in the breakfast area, who got the general manager for me. She did not want to hear what I had to say. And her excuse was that her housekeepers have over 60 rooms to clean. And when I said, "She is right next door, what would it hurt for her to bring her broom or vacuum in and do our floor?" She rolled her eyes at me. I left, went back to our room and my daughter grabbed the broom out of the housekeepers cart and swept our floor. I have photos of her sweeping, what she swept up, that floor had not been cleaned for a long time. I also have photos for itens in the drawers and the bedding in the first room. That hotel...
