President's Day weekend had me in Jacksonville with bestie and while doing bestie things (geocaching, eating & laughing) we stumbled across the museum & asked the bestie had she ever been here? Even though bestie is a lifelong Onslow County resident (most of it in Richlands) she had never stopped in. I figured, we had time so why not? It was the best $2.17 I've ever spent. I learned of OC history, some war history, beach history and always my favorite - Women's History. I sensed that they don't get alot of visitors, which makes me sad as museums are the greatest things left to us by the wealthy and talented, and even though it's a small space, we spent about an hour viewing all the works of art, exhibits of things gone past and history of the OC. They even had a little free craft's kit for the artists of our future.

We scheduled a visit with the museum for my Wilderness Friends Homeschool Group. Setting up the visit was so easy and Lisa was incredibly accommodating. The prices are low and while the museum is small, it holds a lot of history for our county. We learned a lot, we had a ton of fun and we got to end with a fossil hunt! Lisa was phenomenal while giving us the tour. Engaging with each child and even the parents, she made a memorable visit. Also, how in the world did she remember all of our names?! I was thoroughly impressed. Mrs. Lisa, I hope you know how impactful you were during our visit today. Thank you.

We went here while on vacation as an alternative to outdoor activities since its so hot! It was small but did have interesting stuff. I learned about a hero privateer, read letters between a man and wife during the war of Northern agression, they had an interactive Greek exhibit where the kids could dress up. I joined in the fun dressing in a toga and posing like a statue. Would recommend if you want top beat the heat and kill a little bit of time.

I did not spend much time viewing the very intetesting displays because I had the pleasure of meeting and learning from the director Lisa Whitman-Grice. While researching genealogical information, I was absolutely astounded by her breadth of knowledge, passion for area history, and ability to connect clues in historical documents to reveal new information! Mrs. Whitman-Grice has a wonderful energy and ability to make history come alive with her vast knowledge of details about the local geography, family histories, and area customs that makes her an invaluable treasure and resource as an Onslow County historian. I was honored to work with her, and my family is grateful for her opening windows to...
