Given the understanding that this is a brand new restaurant and that my family and I (of only 3) went on the second day it was open, I'm willing and able to chaulk up certain mistakes as growing pains. I am even willing to end this review on a high note just to show that I really do try and make the best out of every situation. That said, I'm only able to forgive mistakes to a certain point when they are made by those responsible for providing a service you deem worthy enough to pay for. Let me be frank, the food and service were terrible. After waiting an hour for our food to arrive in a sparsely occupied dining room, I had hoped the quality of the food would make it worth it. One would think that if you are hungry enough, anything could be appetizing. Well apparently, mediocre standards such as that are still outside of Camino Real's reach. Not only was the food marginally preferable to starvation but mine and my wife's order was wrong not once but twice. Imagine if you will a restaurant that, by all accounts, ran out of the most basic of food stuffs and replaced them with items you would use if you were cleaning out your pantry. As an example, say you ran out of authentic, soft white corn tortillas and instead cracked a hard yellow tortilla in half and laid it flat on a plate. Now in the interest of full disclosure, I'm not quite sure this restaurant actually ran out of anything as the aforementioned mediocre standards seemed to be the status quo throughout this dining experience. Suffice it to say, as I could list a few more low points to the evening, Camino Real should have taken a little more time to get their affairs in order before they opened their doors. Before I wrap this up however, I did promise you a high note. Well, my wife and I decided to pair this abismal meal with a top shelf margarita. Not sure if it was by mistake or by design but the bartender, bless her heart, seemed to have actually spill a little Patroń into the glass. Probably the best...
Read moreThis wasn't the route I wanted to go, at all, but this is my last resort. When I called to make my takeout order, I was told the cost and then the person who took my call hung up before saying how long the wait would be. I called back again and was told it would be around 20 to 25 minutes. I arrived at Camino Real Mexican Restaurant between that timeframe and they were very busy (to be expected) and multiple servers were telling walk-ins, "We can sit you down but we you won't have a server for 5..10..15.....maybe even 20 minutes." I told a server that this was my first time in and I just had a pickup order. The server told me to sit at the bar and my food will be there when it is ready. At this point, it had been 30 minutes since I made the order. People sat at the bar leaving one seat empty between parties and I didn't want to intrude so I stood to the side. Another server approached me after a few minutes and asked what I ordered and said it would be right out. The food was ready about five minutes after this conversation and I paid then left. When I got home and opened up our food, I noticed my wife's meal (Arroz con Pollo) had no cheese sauce on the chicken and minimal guacamole and my daughter's meal (Kids Quesadilla and Rice with a side of beans) was slopped together and left halfway open with steak inside and was missing our order of beans. We had no utensils, which I assume was supposed to be a part of our take out order, and when I finally was able to get ahold of someone on the phone again (the sixth call finally didn't go to voicemail) the person who answered hung up on me when I merely stated I wanted to speak to a manager. I tried calling back immediately afterwards, again, and the call went, again, to voicemail. This wasn't a great first impression and I just wanted to inform management of our experience in hopes that it doesn't happen to...
Read moreThis is the newest location to open and we were pleasantly surprised. This location has much better food than I’ve ever had at the other locations. My plate and his were overflowing. My sig other usually eats all of his food and I usually eat most of mine. We both brought home more than half of both meals. The food had an excellent flavor. My plate was so hot that at the end of the meal, I had to use a napkin to prevent burning my fingers when putting it in a to go box. I’ve never seen a more extensive menu in a Mexican restaurant. It was so hard to choose. I’m guessing it’s more TexMex than mexican. I chose the Tierra Y Mar and he had Fajitas. Both excellent choices. I’m here to update that both reheated well in the microwave without drying out or getting tough. I’m glad they are only 10 minutes away. Definitely 5 stars! The parking lot has consistently been very full since opening. So we tried it and will definitely be going...
