I went into the Williamson road location to look around and kill some time. I made small talk with who I think was the owner but I cannot be sure. I got to talking about this old Super Nintendo my wife had and I thought it was missing one cable and I wasn’t 100% sure but I said I thought it was the AV cable. If not then it was the power cable but I thought it was the AV. I bought one and as it turns out I was wrong and needed the power cable as well as some other things, too many to go forward trying to get her system up and going right now so I decided to return the cable. It was never opened, a new, third party item, and I had my receipt. I was not aware of their no refund policy until I went to return this item which I will admit is my fault for not being an informed consumer. That being said, I’ve never shopped anywhere that I could not return a brand new unopened item for a refund. I went to return it the next day which was Halloween and they were closed. I seen a post on their Facebook page that since previously on that day they did zero dollars in sales, they would only be open by appointment basis in which you must spend one hundred dollars or more. With the prices it wouldn’t be hard to spend a hundred bucks but I myself think it is just in poor taste and bad for business which brings me to another point as well, service and atmosphere. The man and both the counter person the next day come off as being very bitter and tired of dealing with issues. He very much slammed GameStop and blamed them solely for the high prices by taking classic systems away from the community by shipping them elsewhere when they get traded in. You shouldn’t have to slam another business to make yours look good. Your business should look good and flourish based on your service. I understand the frustration of having no customers or a slow business day I do. I heard him complaining I was the second person in all day and this was right at 5:00 pm. If it’s that bad you would think you would want to make sure every person is happy and has a positive place to shop that comes through that door. Instead he just comes off bitter and unhappy. He also spoke several times about being here for the community and so on with his service and his selection of games and accessories. I asked him about a dongle for a rock band guitar for PlayStation 3 and he told me that as soon as he gets those they go on eBay and they bring a high amount (in my opinion) 35-40 dollars because they brake so often and are hard to come by. I found this to be quite conflicting with his statements about GameStop and wanting to keep classic games in the community and all. So I go the next day to return my item and am met with much resistance and poor service. The guy acted like he wanted nothing to do with it and said things like “we’ve never refunded money” and “I’m going to have to call the owner” my response was why I don’t understand? It’s new and unopened and I bought it two days ago and here’s my receipt. He got the guy on the phone and within a few seconds he hung up and said that the only thing he could do is give me store credit. I said I’ll accept because otherwise I’m stuck with a cable I can’t use. Then with an attitude he has me log into my account that I just created with this purchase and said there you got you have 11 bucks in your wallet to use in the store. The cable was 10.99 and the purchase was 11.57. I didn’t even get the full refund. At this point I said ok and walked out extremely unsatisfied. I could not believe the service at a local business that is in need of customers. They come off more so about making money than taking care of their customers making sure they are happy. If you’re customers aren’t happy they won’t spend money or come back. Why not give back to the community and have a gaming Halloween event with candy for kids and such? Do something to get people in there that sets you apart instead of taking a stab at the community by saying if you don’t spend money we won’t be open. Promote more than just on Facebook. Be open your...

I go to this store at least once every time I get paid, (I go to almost every store that sells games on payday.) I collect games and try to catch different stores slipping and selling things for cheap.
This store is the most overpriced ripoff store I have ever seen. If amazon is selling a game for $20, they are selling it for $40. If GameStop has a sale or a deal, or a better price, they won't match it. They buy the limited run games for $24 and mark them up to $100. The same games I saw when they first opened are still sitting in there because they refuse to match and lower prices.
They constantly ask people on Facebook to "support this local business" but they do absolutely nothing to support us in Roanoke.
GameStop delivers better prices, better games, and better player support. For a better local store I would suggest the tech exchange near Salem. They actually will match your prices and offer bundles, and you can haggle all the time.
The motto for game junkies is this:
"It has Mario on it! SIXTY NINE DOLLARS"
Boycott this store. It is trash. And I haven't even touched on the customer service.
I went into the Williamson road location, yes it was close to Christmas, but it was me and two other customers at the door waiting for 10:00am opening. The store attendant comes in with a huge bag of steak and shake and is audibly sighing and grunting that people could possibly be there this early, at 10:00am, when most people have been up since 6:00am, and is being a huge jerk to everyone. He told the guy in front of me "I haven't even opened the door yet can you let me get in the door before you ask me questions?" Rude as hell.
This store also does not have a refund policy. You cannot get a refund. I once bought muramasha the demon blade on Wii and it had VISIBLY been chewed by a dog, but I didn't check the disc before I got home and tried to play it. I went back to the store to return it and guess what, no refunds. GameStop has refunds. Tech exchange has refunds. This. Store. Is. A. Ridiculous. Joke. do not shop here. Do not bring your kids here. Go...
Read moreThis review is going to hurt to write because I love the Williamson Road store and I've given it a 5 star review just now after coming to this place but here it goes.
Dog ate my copy of Pokemon Moon. Went to GameJunkies near my house to check the price. $40 Pre Owned. This game was $40 at launch brand new and they are charging the same price. Meanwhile it's $19.99 used at Gamestop or $15.99 if you have the membership. You can just buy Ultra Moon for $39.99 brand new and that's the newest Pokemon game cheaper then what they are selling this 2 year old one used. I Understand that this is a local business and they need to mark up some things a little here and there to sustain a profit to stay open, but a 250% mark up on a game compared to the market value seems very ridiculous. To be fair I've been to the other location previously and probably shop there once a month as I support local businesses plus this game has been priced lower there and at a good market price previously which is why I checked here first while I was on this side of town, however I am not sure if the guy just put the wrong sticker on the box or if they just increased the costs because business isn't doing well on the 9th street location. Either way pricing being 2.5 times more here on a popular game than the competitors is too much of a price difference to warrant purchasing it here. Attached below is the price for used at Gamestop and the member discount you can have at Gamestop for it. Both prices are under $20 which is less than half of what Game Junkies are charging. Hope the 9th street location gets it together cause the Williamson road location, Tech Exchange, and Gamestop are all better options than the 9th street...
