Terrible experience. When I first moved in the area was great! About a month later my boyfriend and I noticed there was mold in our closet (destroyed a bunch of of my shoes and I wound up having to throw out a bunch of stuff). We figured the building was old so we’d just call it in to our landlord and it would be fixed quick and easy. Wrong. We lived with black mold in our BEDROOM for about 4 months. Everytime we called to ask an update it got blamed on someone else. Our landlord blamed the association and association blamed our landlord. Respectfully, we didn’t care whose fault it was we just wanted the issue resolved and our saftey was feeling blatantly ignored by all of those involved. When we were sick of dealing with it (because my boyfriend, my cat, and myself were all getting terribly sick) we called to try and figure out what the holdup was and if we could at least start the process of getting it resolved. When I said “hi we’re the people with mold in the apartment” the woman on the phone LAUGHED and said “haha which one there’s a lot of you guys” I was shocked not only by the un professionalism but also the fact that it was funny to her that SO MANY PEOPLE were living with this issue. When I was clearly upset she began yelling at me that it was illegal to call her (when her business line was listed on the website to call if we had a problem) It shouldn’t be funny that the area you represent has an issue with something that can make people so sick (if not kill them) and more importantly I shouldn’t get screamed at to the point of tears for calling a number that is listed for me to call. By the time they actually got around to doing anything about it, it was the dead of winter when we had filed the complaint in October. Their contractors came, ripped out the wall and insulation then left saying they’d be back in a few days. Well about a week later we had to call our landlord because we had to keep our heat on full blast constantly and wear multiple layers because we had no insulation in our closet which meant the apartment was freezing. Our landlord was very kind and chopped some money off the rent that month to account for constantly having the heat running and apologized because he had no idea they’d leave us like that but it shouldn’t have been left like that to begin with. We chose this apartment in part because of how much we loved the closet and couldn’t even use it for 6 months out of our 12 month lease. No laundry in unit and the community laundry rooms throughout the complex were a joke. Washers and dryers were beyond expensive for laughable sized loads. My boyfriend and I had to do laundry daily in order to get by because the loads fit about a days worth of clothes (sometimes not even that), we genuinely preferred to go to a Laundry Matt once a week to pay the same price for way bigger loads. Our upstairs neighbors were incredibly loud with lots of pets (we could tell because we could hear them all running around as late at 2-3am and they let the pets free roam the shared community staircase). In the winter there are plows that come for the snow removal but they don’t get there till late in the day more often than not. My boyfriend and I had to miss work almost everytime it snowed because of this (thank goodness my job is so understanding but if yours is not… good luck). Over and over again the things that made this place seem great for us to move in ended up leading to regular disappointment. I could go on for days about how miserable our time spent here was but I’ll stop it at this. If our landlord wasn’t as nice, kind, and fantastic as he was I probably would’ve attempted to get out of our lease at only 3 months in (seriously he’s the only reason this wasn’t 1 star). It’s an unhealthy environment and a mentally draining process if you have any issues whatsoever. If you care about having a place that you can come home and just relax this isn’t it. We were never able to feel clean or calm here. I have never felt a weight lifted off my shoulders like I did the day we gave...
Read moreMy experiences here have not been great.
Neighbors are very loud and walls are very thin. I can hear their dogs, tv, music, vacuum, loud noises like toilets flushing, coughing, sneezing, Bedroom walls are the worst. Living room is ok. We had to get used to with sleeping with a fan on. The building frame also likes to creek a lot and very loudly like a church. In the rare occasions it is quiet you will still hear trucks on 80. It's never quiet here.
Neighbors smoke weed / cigarettes outside and inside. This is not a smoke free community.
There are mandatory additional HOA fees. These get charged to your account as “special assignments”. Was charged like $95 every month for a year and a half to build some wall.
Many dog owners here and some do not pick up after their dog. But perhaps is bear ..., who knows?
Trash bins are very hard to open/close. Wife does not take out the trash anymore because she physically cannot open these bins.
Half the sidewalks and crosswalks are missing. Have to walk in the street/grass if going for a walk. Lots of people walking the street because of this.
School bus stop is outside the community. Wife has to drive to it. Also, missing sidewalks/crosswalks and potential of bear attacks makes it hard to trust kids to walk to it.
Rodents and snakes have gotten into the apartment. Rodents are in the ceiling.
Bugs everywhere. Large centipedes everywhere, beetles, termites ect. My unit has no washer/dryer. I know some units do have them. But doing laundry at the community washer/dryer has made me "very dissasitfied" with my life choices. Also, not only is a load almost $5, it's in quarters only. I found some laundry rooms are cleaner then others. The one close to me is not clean.
HOA will enter your apartment to do fire alarm inspection. I think this is typical at every apartment complex. I was not aware of this.
I've noticed I get new neighbors every month it seems. Lots of people moving in and out. Probably renters or people like me who realize moving here was a mistake.
Not sure if all the heaters are the same (think they are) but my heating is very inefficient. I have the floor wall heaters. I typically pay around $400 a month in electricity during the winter to keep the heat on.
Lots of police activity in the community. Not sure it this is normal or not for this town. I've seen cops driving on the grass once. Probably DV or bear attacks.
No space to put a dining table unless it's in the living room, Layout...
