If zero stars was an option, it would be zero stars. Absolutely H O R R I B L E. The rice was old and literally crunchy. The dumplings felt like they were wrapped in lukebwarm leather. Oil, greasy, and so over cooked that I couldn't cut into it. The fried shrimp was so old and deep-fried so many times, that the tail tip was rusty brown and the shrimp itself snapped in half when I broke it open to look at it. The shrimp inside of the breading should have been bright white, but it was tan and looked like wax. The General Tso's Chicken was old, too, and we could barely chew through the breading. The sweet and sour sauce, which is always a bright cherry red was a dull, deep purple/burgundy... because it was old. The white rice was laid in an open pan, clumped, room temperature and waxy. Literally everything on our plates was inedible. The food on the buffet line looked so awful that I just picked the best options. We stopped eating after the first few bites because we were afraid we'd get sick and throw up all night. No kidding. We left our full plates and walked out. On the way to the door, I spoke with the cashier and told him it was literally inedible; he nodded, said he was sorry, but didn't even offer the manager or a refund. To be noted: HE JUST RANG US UP so he knew we just got there. Terrible food, poor customer assistance. Never ever...
Read moreThis place used to be great when it was Ming’s Court International Buffet. It was always PACKED because the food was great!
When they new owners took over - I dunno - 10 years ago? The cleanliness of the place took a big hit (the bathrooms were seriously nasty) but the overall quality of the food stayed about the same.
Maybe 3 or 4 years ago, the place closed down for renovations. They really-opened and it was awful. Not much selection. Lots of cold (think- yesterdays leftovers thrown back in the steam table) and undercooked greasy food. Stale cookies. Dry and crumbly sushi rolls.
Since my favorite Chinese buffet on Route 10 in East Hanover closed, I decided I’d go out if my way to Wharton and give this place another try. Sadly… some of the food tasted like it was left over from my last visit, 4 years ago. The waitress and hostess were polite and friendly, it the food was… meh. The desert was meh. The chicken-on-a-stick was stringy and tough. The sweet and sour chicken was rubbery and cold. The egg rolls were soggy and tepid. The steak, in the pepper steak, was an exercise in chewing.
This place has so much potential to be a big hit the way it was years ago- but, sadly, the food just sucks. And for $21.00/person for lunch, I expected...
Read moreMy friends, family, and I love this buffet. It has never disappointed and they just went through a beautiful remodel and is much cleaner. The drinks do not cost any extra and are included, I’m talking about the Fortune Buffet in Wharton I don’t know what other reviewers are talking about, the service is typical for a buffet. The buffet is a little over 10 dollars for lunch and 14/15 for dinner on a weekday. Weekends are a little more pricey, but that’s to be expected. (I updated this review on 9/20/18) Overall, it’s a very good value as you would not get the same quality or amount of food at any other restaurant for such a small price unless you go to the pizza buffets in the Wayne area for less. I love it. Don’t bother reading the reviews that are untrue! I’ve never had an issue at this place before or after the remodel. The new sushi is great, too. It’s probably more expensive for take out because it’s under new management and has better sushi; maybe the old model wasn’t making the owners enough money to...
