I have followed the trolley museum for a while on Facebook and have recently started following EBT as well. It was interesting to see the work and the progress they were making on the trains, the yard, and the tracks. I was excited to visit this place after traveling from Rhode Island. Tickets for my family of five cost $95. We waited 15 minutes before boarding the train, which was an open air car with a roof. They were benches on either side, which were made of hard wood, and you could only see out one side of the train. A side note...on the trip back you could see the opposite side, as the train turned around. These benches were a little uncomfortable for my pregnant wife, and the train rocked back and forth the entire ride. It was not smooth like other trains I've ridden. This may have to do with the Narrow Gauge rails. The website shows a train ride with a locomotive and a 60 Minute ride round trip. The ride only took about 45 minutes there and back. And it wasn't a locomotive; they are being refurbished and are not ready to be on the track yet. So we had a diesel locomotive. Not what I was expecting. I was also expecting to be going through a bunch of corn fields and nice sites to see, and there wasn't much of any of that. Just disappointed in the ride, the ride quality, and the scenery. Your best bet is to go across the street to the Rockville Trolley Museum. The tickets are a lot less, you can ride all day, and it travels out the tracks the opposite way, and does have some nice scenery and water views. Again, just disappointed and not what I was expecting. It was not worth the money...
Read moreThere's a great deal that this place has to offer, and I have a feeling that they're just getting started. You can see it in the attention to detail. You can feel it in the enthusiasm of every volunteer or staff I came in contact with. For $20 we got a 7 mile round trip train ride that lasted about 40 minutes. There wasn't a great presentation on the history or the railroad, which made it easier to just enjoy the scenery. For another $10 we got the trolley ride that was 4 miles round trip, that lasted 45 minutes, which included a history lesson on the trolley, but also on the iron that was once produced in that region. Pay close attention to the beautiful woodwork in these trolley cars. They capture the imagination. While the EBT railroad station has been restored to it's original glory with such attention to detail, and it's gift shop had fun, relatively inexpensive souvenirs and was big enough without being overwhelming, the trolley gift shop was more of a book store, and could use some polishing. But the thing about this place is that there is so much to explore, and we didn't know how to go about it. It has this incredible roundhouse that screamed to be explored. While it's not fair to compare this place to the likes of The Strasburg Railroad, or Steamtown National Historical Site in Scranton, it has the buildings, the history and the infrastructure solidly in place. I see this is as the little engine who...
Read moreWe were going to take our Ohio family on this trip but it was so hot we decided to try it after they left and rate for something different next year when they come. So… yes, it was hot but we knew that going in. We chose the open air car. A few people fussed about the hard seat but it was not anything we found terrible. Sadly tho, the scenery was less than spectacular. Highway, people’s back yards, junked out vehicles. That was very disappointing. I don’t think it was worth $22.00 per person. The ride was 40 minutes. That being said, this might be a really nice ride in the fall when the leaves change. Also, consider evening tours. More likely to see deer in the fields if riding maybe 5:00-6:00. We will try again in the fall and give it a second chance. We may try the trolley ride before summer is over to see if it’s worth taking the extended family. They only come in the summer so I don’t think I’ll recommend the train ride. Got maybe 2 decent pictures. On a separate note… staff rating is A++++++ Wonderful, engaging, informative and God love them for wearing what they need to wear when it...
