I am 73 years old. I have not been to Quickstead since I was 15. I spent the majority of my childhood playing in that woods. About that time, a mentally challenged teen strangled a 5 year-old with a bicycle chain. The City of Royal Oak immediately fenced off "our woods" and prevented access. Finally, after public pressure, they gave in and installed restrictive turnstiles. The field where we used to catch garter snakes is now a soccer field. The small "pollywog" pond is gone. I'd give everything I have to be 10 years old...
Read moreI'm not in Royal Oak very often, but I had some time to blow off while waiting for my girlfriend to finish work, so I decided to check out Tenhave Woods.
It is a small but nice reprieve from the city. No hustle and bustle, no cars, no craziness. Just the trees, chipmunks, squirrels, birds, and bugs!
Only about half an hour or so worth of adventure to be had, but sometimes that's all you need. Plus, nature is great and good for your health. Try it out...

The fields are well-maintained and have good run-off performance. Parking for the fields is either on-street to the north or in the lot to the south. No permanent bathrooms are on-site, but nearby restrooms in the high school field house, the city ice rink and/or the community center might be open...
