The beach was nice, the water was refreshing and was clean. There are grills and picnic tables for those who wish to barbeque. The view is beautiful. That was the upside of Rutland State Park Beach. Unfortunately it has a downside, which was the trek to get to the beach and the return back to the car. I asked at the gate about getting to the beach, since I use a rolling walker and was told there was handicap parking and that I would be able to get down to the beach from there with no problem, just to watch out for the tree roots. So I park in the handicap spot and my son, who's special needs and I make our way downward to the beach. It was quite an effort in doing so, since only the first part of the "trail" is somewhat paved and that's a very small area. We finally make it to the beach area and find ourselves being bombarded by what I believe were Yellow Jackets , they weren't trying to sting us, just being annoying, but we were on they turf, so maybe they thought we were annoying. At this point we go into the water, which felt great on the hot day. Now on the trek back up it was harder for me, I had to struggle just to go a few feet and the Yellow Jackets for whatever reason kept following us all the way to the car, but again they weren't being aggressive, I'm not sure why they were attracted to us, maybe our sunscreen, not sure. But as for this beach being handicap accessible, it is only if you are able to maneuver downward on a "trail" that is quite challenging and then have the ability to get back up that same "trail" safely. Just because they call it handicap accessible, doesn't mean it is, maybe they should test it to make sure EVERYONE can get down to the beach before they say it is.

Today we found a hidden gem. I've been to this park many times to hike especially in the winter. But I never realized there was a little beach for taking a dip on a hot summer day! With picnic tables and grills available, we will be sure to bring our dinner next time and cook here! The swimming area is very small and the sand is typical New England lake Beach but it is a nice quiet and clean place.

One of the best state parks around. Very beautiful. They have picnic tables and grills for bbq. It has a camping feel about it. It is surrounded by pine trees so the air feels clean. They do have bathrooms as well that are actually pretty good shape and updated. Overall great place to spend the day swimming, bbq, walking etc with family and friends. Always a peaceful enjoyable...
