Definitely worth the stop! I'm not one to shy away from leaving lower star reviews but I'm not sure why this place would get lower stars. Its a great stop off for anyone! We only stopped off for the view of the rock really but the store surprisingly wasn't a huge money grab like everything else here is! The prices would make you think you are back in the good days of the 80s or 90s. They had a variety of little things and suvinors. Of course toys for the kids. Wooden slingshots were a plus! A place where I feel like you could spend a little and not feel ripped off.
The rock was only $1 a person. Two resting areas with 2 or 3 sets of steps really not bad at all. I thought the views were nice. You could see the tree tops below and it gave you a real sense of how high up you were. It's a small area at the top and people like to hog the area that was my only dislike but other than that trust me it's probably the only super reasonable thing...

For the very reasonable fee of $1, you get to climb Castle Rock - an old Native American lookout that is about 200 feet in the air. The climb can be taxing and I certainly would not advise the elderly or those in poor physical condition to try it.
Once you've climbed to the top of the stairs, you are presented with a panoramic view of UP. You can see Lake Huron, the Mackinac Bridge, St. Ignace, and lots and lots of beautiful tree cover. There is a pay-per-use old school telescope on top, so bring change if you're interested.
There's a lovely gift shop with everything from postcards to shirts, and all the little goodies in between that these places specialize in. Very friendly staff.
Overall, highly recommended, given the affordable entrance fee, the friendly staff, and the million...
Read moreThere's nothing bad about this place - the challenge of walking up the steps to the lookout point, the rest stop in between, make it a memorable experience for the whole family. I first went when my son was 9 months old, and walked the whole thing up wearing him in a carrier. This time he walked the whole thing as a 3.5 year old, with his grandparents. Reaching the top and seeing the top of the forest, Lake Huron, and Mackinac Island is magical.
Make your way back down and into the gift shop, where you can just browse around or purchase unique gifts, or chintzy souvenirs. This time we went the rest rooms were out of order and we had to use port-a-potties outside, which in and of itself isn't a bad thing - they were absolutely filthy though.
Easy to get to once you've crossed the bridge into the UP, and only a dollar to climb, don't miss...
