This museum is free and has plenty of information about Beaver Island and its rich shipping history. Doug, a member of the B.I. Historic Society, was volunteering there the day I visited. His wealth of knowledge truly made my visit a great experience. The best part is the life boat from the SS Carl D. Bradley, one of the greatest shipwrecks in our state's history. If you have children ask about the scavenger hunt as well.

Was free when I went, with a suggested donation. This place is great to learn about Michigans Maritime history, walking through you a great array of lake related natural disasters, shipwrecks, and you even get to enter one of their old decommissioned passenger ferry’s.

There is now a fee of $5.00 per person which is understandable. Unfortunately the lower level was taped off because a new floor is being installed. The Bob boat is interesting and probably fun for kids.

Lots of interesting artifacts and historical displays. You can learn a great deal about the island's maritime and fishing history in a half hour visit. There's also a great display, including an oral history narrated by one of the two survivors, about the history of the greatest shipping disaster on Lake Michigan, which happened in 1958 near Beaver Island. It's like the story of the Edmond Fitzgerald without the Gordon Lightfoot song but with more (33 vs 29) casualties. Definitely...

Toured the Museum on September 8, 2017. It was a great tour and the tour guide ( Tracy } was very informative and made the tour fun. I really enjoyed the the Bob S. I can only imagine all the history that is unknown about this old fishing boat. The pictures and information sheets were very interesting as well. I will visit this Museum again. Thanks Tracy...
