Beaver Island Marine Museum — Attraction in Saint James Township

Lots of interesting artifacts and historical displays. You can learn a great deal about the island's maritime and fishing history in a half hour visit. There's also a great display, including an oral history narrated by one of the two survivors, about the history of the greatest shipping disaster on Lake Michigan, which happened in 1958 near Beaver Island. This museum is free and has plenty of information about Beaver Island and its rich shipping history. Doug, a member of the B.I. Historic Society, was volunteering there the day I visited. His wealth of knowledge truly made my visit a great experience. The best part is the life boat from the SS Carl D. Bradley, one of the greatest shipwrecks in our state's history. Toured the Museum on September 8, 2017. It was a great tour and the tour guide ( Tracy } was very informative and made the tour fun. I really enjoyed the the Bob S. I can only imagine all the history that is unknown about this old fishing boat. The pictures and information sheets were very interesting as well. I will visit this Museum again. Thanks Tracy...
