This Golf course has been around for a while and is still in good shape. The golf course is well designed and playable for any style of golfer. It is golfer friendly! Average round is about 3 and a 1/2 hours for all 18.
The tee boxes are in good shape not too rough. The fairways were not too sticky but if you got it in the rough good luck little long and sticky. The greens roll nicely and are not too bad. I would say more golfers need to fix their divots. A little bumpy on some of them! But I would say over all the ground crew maintenance is good to go they do a very good job!
The pro shop has what every golfer needs to play golf. Most apparel and golf hats in the pro shop were reasonably priced! They had golf balls and tees available in the pro shop. The only thing they did not have was a poker chip ball marker with their logo on it! No ball markers or divot repair tools, kinda disappointed that I couldn't collect one for my collection!
When you go play this course make sure you ask if there's any kind of league play going on because that will slow you down! And if there is league play and they say you can T off at 1 ask if you can T off at 10 because we teed off at 1 and we caught up to the men's group 4 holes later and it was a long process. Maybe a little bit more course management out there to keep the game moving or course ranger to check on their groups would be nice!
Over all I would say this is a nice course besides the men's league play and no logo ball marker, so besides the little hiccup, grab your clubs and some friends and go play this course, you will not be disappointed in the course at all. It's all about supporting your local golf courses and bringing friends to experience different courses! Tell em that Tbone sent you and #getoutngolf you shouldn't be disappointed!! Get on them to get in the poker chip ball marker game!!...
Read moreI visited Phalen Park specifically to attend the Changsha Friendship Garden ribbon cutting event. There was no parking set aside for attendees. The annual dragon boat races were on the same day, and there was either inadequate, or no coordination among the regional park management and the event organizers.
The Asia Security people hired by the dragon boat organizers blocked all the parking lots around the Friendship Garden. They would not let us park at the Friendship Garden entrance even though almost all the parking spaces were available. The Asia Security staff would not honor my 93-year old father's invalid parking permit, and they did not provide a supervisor we could talk to or a number we could call to buy a dragon boat event parking permit.
I found parking almost a mile away from the event. I helped my father travel through traffic and across gravel in his wheelchair to get back to the Friendship Garden. We missed the ceremony due to , he time required to return from finding parking outside the park and return.
My first, and probably last, experience visiting Phalen park was very frustrating for me, humiliating for my father. We felt utterly unwelcome and...
Read moreReally nice large park surrounding Lake Phalen. There's both bike and walking paths all the way around the lake. These paths also connect to Keller Lake Regional Park, the Gateway State Trail, and the Grand Rounds. Along the path, you can find plenty of bathrooms, some playgrounds, a beach, a boathouse with rentals, and even an Asian garden. The one downside of the bike paths here is half of them are worn down and rather bumpy on inline skates, so I would not recommend these paths for inline (I came here just to inline skate.) However, the streets surrounding the lake are quite smooth most of the way around without much traffic, so I was able to jump on the street for the really rough sections of path. There are also a few small hills with rough surface on the path around the lake which also were not ideal for inline skating. That path would likely be fine for biking or running, though, so I would recommend the path for those activities, and the park for any lake related activities. The beach isn't real large, so I'd recommend the lake more for man powered boats...
