This is honestly one of our favorite parks. We bought a home near this park a few years ago and have frequently attended this park. Its beautiful. We have a son that attends the middle school and a one year old who has spent many days of his life being pushed around this park so far.

However. After the recent hurricanes. It is completely NOT safe at all. My mother is an arborist and my father and her have owned a well known tree business in south Tampa for 40 years.

Walter Fuller park is not clear of hurricane debris. After hurricane milton the park, as many other places saw severe damage. This park was cleaned of some fallen trees and damaged debris. However there is a HEAVY amount of vegetation dead and dangling. Yes that’s correct. Dangling. When the wind blows it blows. Giant trees. Not even just the limbs. If you know this area you know that jungle Terrance is filled with big old trees. These trees have trunks bigger than multiple vehicles and these trees are very dangerous and hanging within and from one another.

All along the top of the play areas for children. Small playgrounds. Large playgrounds. ALL of the picnic areas. All of the recreation centers areas. I see children playing in these lower laying trees and under them daily.

This is a great concern that the city needs to address. It is a dire emergent issue as a huge safety concern. The more time that goes by. The more these areas and trees/ vegetation becomes more unstable and has potential to become unlodged and fall on people and children beneath.

Please please do something. City of St. Petersburg, Pinellas county, Pinellas parks and rec. anyone and anything. Even the middle school that is across the street is at a huge risk danger and liability...

I've been visiting this park for something like 18 years, or at least close to the duration of my relationship with my significant other. It has undergone a few changes in that time, but nothing terribly drastic. There used to be access to the fingers of land that extend into the lake, but have since been closed off for preservation. I wouldn't say that takes away from the experience, though. If you are looking for a nice and accessible place for a picnic, it's great. There are tables and other amenities near the parking lot - such as tables and a playground (if memory serves).. plus, there are several open fields to run around in as well as a fenced off dog park area. The main draw for me is mostly the wildlife that migrates through each year. For being a relatively quaint and open park, I have seen quite the variety of species of duck. Ruddies, scaups, plus the year round mallards and muscovys. There are usually the smaller migratory birds around wintertime (the many different warblers, sometimes flickers, etc). But, there are a few longtime osprey nests in the lights by the soccer fields. Every so often, you get a nice view of the osprey hunting in the lake. I don't think the giant carp still inhabit the lake - that was probably 5+ years ago when last I saw them, but there are some cichlids and other small freshwater fish. And turtles. Lots of turtles. It also has some value as a teaching resource, if you're into that kind of thing. For a big project I had to complete for one of my capstone courses, we were to go out and find a local habitat and classify it based on the plants, soil, and water (think I ended up with determining it as a palustrine system).

But yeah, nice place to go for a...

Normally love this park for walking and enjoying the green space. Tried out the dog park with my puppy. Crescent Lake has been wonderful with responsible owners. We have had wonderful times playing with other puppies. Tonight at Walter Fuller Puppy Park we were accosted as soon as we came in the gate. My puppy properly greeted the gray ‘shitmix’ that was sitting in front of the gate. I could easily see this dog was not stable by the body language and quickly put my dog’s leash back on and turned to leave the park. At this time the aggressive dog started biting my puppy’s face. I pushed it aside and checked my puppy. No visible injuries. At no time did the owner get up and come over to leash her viscous dog, apologize or anything!! It may be small but this dog should be held accountable! A very loud argument ensued but the owner refused to take responsibility, leash and control her dog so I was forced to leave. You wouldn't believe the ignorance that this woman spewed at me about dog behavior and how it was my fault that her mini Hannibal tried to chew my dog’s face off. Perhaps we can consider some mandatory basic training requirements for a dog to go in the dog park. The three women that were there in their little cliche with their mean dogs all ganged up on me. Im confident there wasn’t a working brain cell amongst them. Others have mentioned this problem with owners refusing to remove their vicious dog. We need a number to call when this situation is happening. I pay taxes to enjoy this park. It’s less than two miles from my house and I would like to be able to use it. I am reporting this incident to the city and expect an answer soon. Thank you...

My review is of the dog park at Walter Fuller. I try to go every day, weather and schedule permitting, and often go twice a day. I think I've been to all of the dog parks in the area and this is my favorite. They have separate areas for large and small dogs. Both are well maintained and are decent sized. Actually, the large dog side is enormous. Both have plenty of shade and have ample picnic tables and benches for owners to sit and socialize and also have a few benches away from the others for those who prefer not to socialize. The thing that really makes Walter Fuller special is the people and the dogs who come. Most are regulars, as I am, but always welcome new visitors. I've never seen an aggressive dog or an unfriendly owner there. On the small dog side, there are two regular groups that come, a morning group at around 10:30am and an afternoon group around 5:30 or so, seven days a week. There are always a few dogs who want to play and others who are less playful. The regular dogs are very well socialized and never bother the dogs who don't want to play. If you decide to visit, look for me. I'm a disabled veteran in my early 70's and have a tiny service dog, Mia, who is a black and tan Yorkie/Lhasa Apso crossbreed, with a huge personality. I hope to see you there.
