A tale of Americana on route 66. For those of a certain age, Historic route 66 had what seemed like an unlimited number of roadside attractions that were meant to draw you in for sights and experiences you wouldn't see anywhere else. With the construction of the Interstate Highway System, I-44 and I-40 made most of the attractions a memory.
In 2015, on what is still part of the original mother road, the Uranus Fudge Factory was conceived. For those without a sense of 5th grade humor, or if someone along the way called you a prude, you may as well stop reading this.
First, I am not a fan of these sorts of tourist traps (i.e. South of the Border, Wall Drug, anything in Florida, etc.). My wife and I first passed this place on a road trip in 2018, and I said if we ever get this way again, we at least need to "punch the ticket". Boy am I glad we did. I thought the innuendo relate to ones anus was on over drive, which seems tacky until you actually experience it. They have an audio track playing which adds even more funny (yes funny) lines into the experience. We obviously had to purchase a couple pieces of fudge (dah) and it was the softest, creamiest, tasteful fudge I've ever eaten.
When we went to checkout, the woman at the register asked if the person that "packed our fudge" wore protection. Caught my wife and I by surprise and once we thought a bit, I would not have expected anything less.
In the early 2020's, they have opened a location in Richmond, IN (not sure why), and a location in Anderson, IN (right off I-69, so not sure why you'd want Uranus off 69)? Go to mile marker 25 on I-69 in MI and you'll see the highway is sponsored by a nudist colony. This is indeed an exciting highway.
Take a gander at the photos I posted, and you'll get a taste of this place. It was a blast and I will definitely need to stop on our next trip, as I'm sure I missed many...
Read moreWe made a trip out here because of a Facebook reel, first of all it's hilarious to stop and check it all out, however how I would recommend a rate this would be if you're going in that direction to another place, other than a couple of stores in the area that are interesting such as a souvenirs and curious shop about a half mile down the road, which the people there were absolutely amazing told us all about the history army area and recommended a campground nearby that had a campsite right on the river. Overall it was a great trip, prices are about what you would expect fireplace like this a little higher than they need to be because of the oddity of it. But overall not crazy high. Fudge was decent not the best I've had not the worst. The people that work there were really nice and they enjoy themselves and have a lot of fun with what they do, so it makes for a pleasant experience when you're there. For six bucks next door you can stop and see The oddities museum which was interesting and a few things were very cool to see, not exactly Ripley's Believe it or not but the sword swallower was interesting to watch. She was a little slow on her delivery with jokes and stuff but she was very likable an overall it wasn't that painful to watch for $6 a person. Overall I do still give it five stars because I personally feel like it was worth stopping to see, but if you're headed to that direction make sure you jump off the highway and check it out, and by the way there is no town of Uranus the fudge factory is the town of Uranus. And if you want to know the story behind that talk to the curio shop down the street with all the outdoor stuff, they were very happy to share the...
Read moreOur family recently visited the Uranus Fudge Factory in Missouri, and it was an absolute delight! As a husband and father of two, finding a place that keeps the whole family entertained is a rare gem, and this place hit the sweet spot!
The moment we stepped in, we were greeted by the vibrant and whimsical decor, setting a fun and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were exceptionally friendly, engaging with the kids in a way that made them feel special. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and it set the tone for our entire visit.
The fudge selection was out of this world! With a variety of flavors, there was something to satisfy everyone's taste buds. Watching the fudge being made was a treat in itself; it's not every day you get to see such a delightful mix of art and science. The kids were fascinated, and honestly, so was I!
Aside from the fudge, there were plenty of other activities to keep us entertained. The kids particularly loved the quirky and interactive exhibits. There were so many laughs and smiles shared, creating memories we'll cherish for a long time.
What truly stands out is how the Uranus Fudge Factory manages to blend humor, creativity, and delicious treats into an experience that appeals to all ages. It's not just a store; it's a destination that offers a unique blend of entertainment and indulgence.
I highly recommend the Uranus Fudge Factory to any family looking for a fun and memorable outing. It's a place where joy and laughter are as abundant as the delectable fudge. We're already looking forward to...
