Looking for a fun place to visit on an easy day trip with an amazing small town feel? Will this place has all the answers. Less than 2 hours away from St Louis going West on I-44, and you are right in the middle of it all. Started off the afternoon with an amazing BBQ lunch that was dirt cheap and ridiculously delicious. Next stop was an amazing ice Creamery where I had to get a funnel cake and I made the mistake of asking for three scoops of ice cream. I have never eaten so much ice cream in one sitting. Once again dirt cheap and crazy delicious last but not least was the General Store with all kinds of cool t-shirts and gifts and unbelievable collection of candies and snacks. I really have to give a shout out to the crew at this place who made more Uranus jokes than I thought was humanly possible and of course this place was known for its freshly made fudge. So many varieties that I literally could not choose. Came home with almost $100 worth of the stuff and had to put most of it in the freezer. But believe me no regrets! Can't wait to take the family back...
Read moreIt's not a town. It's a destination. Yes, welcome to Uranus along US Route 66 which in this part of America is alongside Interstate 44 between Joplin and Saint Louis. It is home of the Uranus Fudge Factory and General Store, the Fort Uranus Mission Outpost, the Uranus Museum, the Uranus Ice Cream Company and the World's Largest Belt Buckle. You'll also find a Uranus Police Car, a Uranus Fire Truck, a small playground and a covered picnic area.
The Fudge Factory is a candy and trinkets shop with post cards, tshirts, bumper stickers and the like to commemorate your visit to this double entendre of a town. The Mission Outpost is a gun shop and indoor shooting range. The Museum has artifacts and information about the history of sideshows. The Belt Buckle is huge though it has since been surpassed in size by one in Texas.
The candy shop is free to visit as is the belt buckle. It's easy to access and the 12 year old in you will love telling people that you...
Read moreI am a bit biased on this place. I knew it when it was originally a strip joint that was off limits to anyone from FLW. To say it has changed is an understatement. It is now a tourist trap and takes its job seriously. I could even say it is more packed with tourists than it was with people in the past watching the strip show. It was very crowded the Saturday I was there with an overflowing parking lot. It has just about everything kitschy you may need from fudge to circus banners to tee shirts. It is definitely a place worth checking out. Even has more Missouri brands of wine than my local store. About every 2 minutes, the staff is yelling "Welcome to Uranus" as loud as possible. Just make sure you bring a good supply of $$ along....
