The beach is absolutely breath taking and I would highly recommend stopping on the mountain to grab some photos on the way down. The ocean is a blue color that is very rarely seen and the sea life is fun to check out the turtles and fish. Try to get in the water early to see everything. The sand is very soft on your feet and I wish all the sands on beaches were like this. Easily a top beach in the Caribbean and would come back again and again for the beach. We had the chance to stop at this location as part of our Disney Cruise Line Disney Fantasy port adventure aka excursion. The safari jeep to get there was nice and open aired which was great since it was so hot and not much AC. The driver was safe and did an excellent job getting us there and back. Once there the staff showed us what chairs were included and what we could purchase as upgrades. I do not have any prices to compare for the upgrades but felt they were quite pricey but the chairs and umbrellas that were included we just fine for the family. The staff working the bar were quite friendly and explained some of the local drinks and what their favorites were. Prices on the drinks were reasonable and the lines was never too long. The beach was amazing and the blue water was great for sea life and snorkeling. Wish we got to see more. The staff working the food section is where the review goes south. The prices were outrageous. Two fish tacos and plantains were over $30 which they add 15% gratuity to all the tickets no matter cash or credit card. We asked for some food to be prepared a certain way and were told no (minimal seasoning) even though it was possible they did not at all seem to be flexible or understand. The ladies working the counter were not friendly nor patient. If we are to come back to the island I would highly recommend avoiding this beach club and try another one. We are now off to...
Read moreGreat but with some frustrations
During our cruise stop in April 2025, my family visited Magens Bay Beach. Soft sand, crystal-clear warm water, picturesque views, and even some snorkeling opportunities on the right edge make it an excellent destination for anyone looking for a great beach in St. Thomas.
The right side of the beach (facing the sea) was packed with people, umbrellas, and loungers. This is where taxis drop off passengers, and getting a lounger there was a frustration. $40 gets you either an umbrella with two loungers or just two loungers, but the rental process was very slow and inefficient. Each person had to wait while an attendant searched for available umbrellas with no guarantee he would find one by the time it was finally your turn. After 30 minutes in line, we were told no umbrellas were left. Couldn’t they have told us earlier? Ultimately, we settled for loungers at the very back, near the road where taxis pull in. There was a food and drinks shack on this side of the beach, but it had 20+ min wait times. Losing precious beach time just to grab a few drinks felt quite frustrating. More bartenders or additional drink/food stations could easily solve this and make the Magens Bay Beach experience more enjoyable.
The left side of the beach (facing the sea), however, was peaceful, quiet, and spacious, with natural shade from the trees. It had picnic tables, but no loungers, umbrellas, or food/drink vendors (why not open one?). I wish we'd known about this contrast in advance - we would've opted for left side. If you can skip a lounger, use natural shade, and don't mind taking a walk for food and drinks, I'd highly recommend to stay on the left side of the beach for...
Read moreThis was our last cruise topped at 8 other islands. This Beach was the worst! We had a taxi that was built in the back of a F150. When you pull in he starts taking money from everyone for the $5 admit fee to the beach. Not in order, disorganized, after all in my row had paid one didn't get an admit ticket and the girl said she gave all the tickets that were paid. When I listed the currency each of us gave her, she still was adamant that she gave out the correct tickets that were paid. I said this is a joke (because of the disorganized method of paying). She proceeded to yell at me and say it's not a joke and continued to yell at me while we were pulling away. That's just the tip of the problems with this place. To rent chairs and umbrellas you go in there boutique where they charge you for the chairs etc and deposits on every item that you get when you bring them back. You go out to get your Beach items and the guys are just unstacking them on the beach and making you drag your chairs wherever you can find a space but not in their area. If you want them to do it for you it's an extra $5. I saw older people dragging chairs and digging holes for their umbrellas so I went over to offer help to one man and because we didn't move fast enough out of his area he yelled to get out of his work area it's too busy. His picture is on here. You will see the Hodge podge of chairs everywhere in the pics. This is the top ten WORST beaches. I expected more with it being a US island. All other islands we visited, people were so nice and organized. Just stay on the ship it's not worth it! PS all other Beach goers felt...
