I recently had my dress altered here for my sister’s wedding, where I was the maid of honor. I am a small, slim, petite woman and had a few specific requests: shortening the train, adjusting the straps, and adding a bustle. At my first visit, the lady took my measurements and assured me that the dress would be ready by September 9th.

Unfortunately, that date came and went without any communication. My sister (who had the same dress altered there) called shortly after the 9th to check in, and was told the dresses were not ready and more time was needed. Weeks passed with no updates or courtesy calls.

As the wedding was only a week and a half away, my sister and I finally decided to walk in and pick up our dresses. To my disappointment, the bustle had not been added, the straps were still too large, and the hemline looked untouched. When I asked the seamstress to at least add the bustle while I waited—as she had told me earlier she could—she refused and tried to place the blame on me for not coming in multiple times, which was unrealistic given their limited hours and my work schedule.

I ultimately paid $300 for an incomplete and poorly executed job. On the day of the wedding, the dress caused me nothing but stress: the lining was coming apart and tripping me with nearly every step, and the bustle couldn’t hold the weight of the train, coming undone every few minutes.

Years ago, I had a wonderful experience with this shop, which makes this outcome even more disappointing. Sadly, the quality, professionalism, and reliability seem to have changed drastically. For the price I was charged and the lack of accountability, I cannot recommend their services and will not be returning...

This place is amazing! My best friend got married last month and I was fortunate enough to be included in the bridal party. Due to personal flaws of my own, it was down to about a week before the big day and I still needed to have my dress hemmed (about 6 or7 inches). Never having had anything altered before and being new to the area, I was on a frantic google search. Salem Custom Tailoring was one of the results. It had good reviews and was just down the street from me. I was able to send them an email right from their website to see if they could do what I needed in such a time crunch. They responded quickly and never for a second made me feel poorly about waiting last minute. I was instructed to bring the dress by first thing the next day. I stopped in before work and I was in and out in about 15 mins. That was on a Wednesday morning and I was able to pick up my beautifully hemmed Bridesmaid dress by Saturday. The day I picked it up, I was greeted with immense smiles. I was offered delicious baklava/water and invited to sit and enjoy a break. I was so busy with my bridal duties that I needed to take my treat on the go. They were so welcoming and friendly and even carried my dress to my car. Those over at Salem Custom Tailoring took what would have been a major stress and turned it into a pleasant errand. I will definitely keep them in mind for my future alteration...

I can’t share any pictures until after October 25, but I cannot be more THRILLED with the service from Salem Custom Tailoring. I bought a wedding dress from a consignment shop and it fit a little big in the top. I wanted to have it taken in, along with the train, and was stressed about finding a tailor and/or seamstress I trusted enough with my special dress. Thankfully, SCT was able to adjust the top to fit me perfectly (you can’t even tell any work was done on it) AND kept the beautiful detailing on the back in perfect condition. She advised to not touch the train, as it wasn’t the train length that was bugging me, it was the overall fit, and once the top was taken in, and the front lifted, it would be much better. And she was so right! I can’t wait to wear my dress on my special day, and know I’ll be comfortable and feeling beautiful. The entire experience was amazing, and lifted a lot of stress off my shoulders for my big day. The communication was perfect, the friendliness and atmosphere was welcoming, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience, or a better tailor to make my dream dress perfect.
