The journey to the castle is part of the charm, with a winding road leading you through beautiful landscapes that set the stage for the picturesque destination. Once you arrive, the stone structure of Coronado Heights Castle immediately captures your imagination, transporting you to another time and place.
The castle itself is a fascinating piece of history, with its rustic stone architecture and quaint, medieval-inspired design. Exploring the various nooks and crannies of the castle is a delight, and the lookout points provide some of the most stunning views you'll find in the region. One of the highlights of my visit was the peacefulness and tranquility of the area. The picnic areas around the castle are well-maintained, providing a great place to relax and enjoy a meal with a view.
The history of Coronado Heights Castle adds an extra layer of interest to the visit. Learning about its construction during the 1930s as a Works Progress Administration project and its connection to the legend of Francisco Vásquez de Coronado gives the site a rich cultural significance.

Read moreFree!! Easy to get to and plenty of space to park right next to the castle. Super fun family outing. We spent about an hour here. They have several fire pit oven areas and really fun walking trails. Very easy trails, stair, and hiking area. Bathrooms are just seats and holes in the ground which were very very dirty. I would love given 5 stars if the toilets were clean and there was a little table, shelf, or area for kids or diaper changing. Overall a fun place with a good view. We would go back for sure.
Went on a Sunday afternoon, a busy time, and there were 4 other groups there. The first time we went on a Tuesday afternoon and there was just one other group.
Accessibility ♿️: 0/5 rough ground, stairs, and hiking paths. Kid friendly: 3/5 definitely keep your eye on them as the activities and castle could be quite hazardous. Make sure to go to the fire area by the cedar trees to the right of the castle. There are super cool rock formations. No changing area and no...

Especially after watching the sun sink into the horizon over such a vast expanse of gorgeous farmland. Named peak or not, this is a great place to stretch your legs if your passing by on nearby highway US-81, take your lady on a picnic, show the entire family, or simply enjoy the solitude and spend some time...
