This place is pretty cool yet it's very rundown. Built in the '30s and probably modernize or updated at some point in time. The facility has some really old vault toilet. I did not see any running water anywhere nor did I see any actual trail markers at any point. The trail and surrounding areas was what due to rain so if we didn't venture much further than the actual grounds and the road. There are a large number of outdoor picnic areas which can be challenging for anyone to get to because they are built into the natural landscape of the surrounding area. There are appears to be a section that potentially existed at one time and has completely collapsed due to a rock / mudslide. One of the chimney exist yet there are no picnic tables or other areas around it. The volt toilet is ancient and old and a reach really bad as it appears to have been emptied an ages. There are no modern convenience for safety items. There appears to be a newer slab at the entrance of the castle which has a pretty rough floor. If you are capable and willing to traverse this area it's well worth the effort and experience to come here and visit it. If you have challenges it might not be the best place. As for the grounds and the picnic area is unlikely that anyone uses it often. There are weeds growing up in every crack and crevice all around. The real plus side to this visit was the stunning view due to the...

The views are very good of the valley below. Pretty much a 360 view of the lower elevations. There are some hiking trails in the area, but with high humidity and temps over 100, we didn't think it was a good idea to experience those.
There is the main castle which has stairs to get to the top level (but not to the top of the tower). Nice views, cooler, some benches to sit on. Nice photo angles looking through the windows. I'm sure sunrises and sunsets would be pretty memorable from here. There is another foundation located on the site across from the castle. There are numerous little "pods" that are along the hillsides with picnic tables in them. Great views, relaxing, but so hot! The other building looked cool so we walked over to it. There were long slits for windows. I figured it was something military based. However, upon entering this building, we realized it was...
Read moreWe love visiting Coronado Heights! The views from the top are absolutely stunning—some of the best in Kansas, especially sunset! The hike up is short but steep, making it a great hill workout with a rewarding payoff. It’s a peaceful spot to explore, take photos, and soak in the scenery. A beautiful and unique place to visit in...
