The original calaveras county jail and courthouse built in 1867 in san andreas california. executions were held in the courtyard on the other side of the rock wall until 1888. the notorious outlaw stage coach robber black bart was held here during his trial in 1883. in 1966 a new courthouse and jail were built and this became the calaveras county museum, still in use today. #calaverascounty #goldrush #blackbart

The museum is really well researched, documented and can't believe it's not more attended! This location found the most gold in California, even though Murphys was the first place to strike gold, hence is more famous. Would highly recommend visiting esp only $5 per person and includes a free entry to the Red Barn Museum. My three year old also found it very...
