BEWARE if you are a heart patient who is at high risk for COVID. I've tried to contact this facility to discuss my traumatizing experience & they will not return my calls. They have UNVACCINATED workers WHO GO TO CHURCH!!! conducting long procedures (1 hour for me) in tiny rooms in close contact with high risk heart patients.
Not only does having unvaccinated staff put the rest of the staff & ALL patients at risk for COVID (see the recent example from March where 1 unvaccinated staff member spread COVID to 26 vaccinated nursing home residents & 20 vaccinated staff - 6 residents were hospitalized & 3 residents died because of the unvaccinated staff member's "choice" to not get protected or protect others). I wore a LOT of PPE & explained how afraid I was of getting COVID at the beginning of the appt, & the unvaccinated clinician did not even think to ask if I wanted someone else to do my procedure or warn me about her unvaccinated status / values when they were obviously inconsistent with mine, & it is the patient's RIGHT to have a practitioner who shares their values. It's literally in Scripps' patient rights handbook. They do not think about heart patients' rights to safety or choice at Scripps apparently.
Instead, this unvaccinated staff member PROUDLY told me she was unvaccinated, "doesn't trust the vaccines" (how are you a medical professional if you don't trust science?), & is not afraid of COVID since she learned to "treat it herself" using a toxic substance, phenol, & by getting a dentist friend to illegally prescribe her hydroxychloroquine when doctors wouldn't (bc it is not safe & doesn't help with COVID). She peddled Trump-led conspiracies how "the govt only wants you to think hydroxychloroquine doesn't work" (all scientific studies proves it doesn't work & is harmful), then went on to push her religion on me, telling me when she saw an irregularity in my heart "you're always better off with what God gave you" instead of trying to fix it, & proudly told me she attends church with others (TBD if masks are worn even since COVID is NBD to her). She said "all you need to fight COVID is Vitamin D, a healthy diet, sunshine, & a positive attitude" - tell that to the 570K dead Americans' families, the families of the over 3MM dead worldwide, especially when so many of the victims were healthy.
I cried under my masks & goggles during the rest of the procedure at a loss for how someone anti-vax / pro-conspiracy was working with high risk heart patients, doing long procedures 1 - 2 feet away from patients' faces. She is also partially anti-mask, while she wore a loose surgical mask during the appointment, she told me even when she worked with COVID patients she refused to wear an N95 because "how do you breathe in those things" - I was wearing an N95 & could breathe fine. Doctors do it all day every day because it protects them & others. I felt panicked, trapped, had an anxiety attack, I had spent MONTHS NOT SEEING ANYBODY AT ALL to AVOID PEOPLE LIKE HER WHO WOULD PUT ME & MY FAMILY AT RISK, & SCRIPPS PUT ME IN A ROOM WITH AN ANTI-VAXXER CONSPIRACY THEORIST FOR AN HOUR.
She said she hoped she didn't scare me because she was not vaxxed (& congregating in large groups weekly for church) - WHAT DO YOU SAY TO THAT?! Of COURSE I was scared! I was TRAUMATIZED by this appt, & no one at Scripps will return my calls about how completely unprofessional & harmful the appointment was. I, & all Anderson patients & staff members, could have been put at risk by this staff member & they do not care. I asked if she was tested regularly since she wasn't vaccinated, she looked confused: "no, only if you have symptoms." Has Scripps never heard of asymptomatic spread? FILM SETS HAVE BETTER SAFETY STANDARDS.
The only thing I asked is if they would ASK her if she would agree to a COVID test so I wouldn't have to wait 2 weeks to know if I had been exposed. They said it would be a violation of HER rights to ask - but what about my right to safety? Then they hung up on me. Didn't even offer to test me for free....
Read moreI didn't even make it to my initial appointment at the endocrinology and diabetes clinic. Two weeks before my appointment I received a phone call that the endocrinologist, James D. McCallum, whom I was scheduled to see in January 2025 was not going to be available after all. The receptionist informed me that another doctor could see me at an earlier time but I began to express how this would conflict with my work schedule. The receptionist did not like that I was explaining my reasoning of why I could not take an earlier appointment and told me that I was not letting him/her (the voice was old, raspy & hard to tell if it was a woman's or a man's voice) continue with his talk about how there weren't any available appointments until April and how I wanted to proceed. So now my January appointment would be rescheduled to three months later into April. When I began to inform the receptionist of my working hours he/she interrupted me. I told the receptionist, "now you're interrupting me." He/she got so annoyed that I called him/her on interrupting me and proceeded to tell me that I would need to call back later and immediately hung up on me. I was appalled and could not believe the rudeness of this receptionist. My only regret is that I didn't get their name. I need an appointment with endocrinology so I called again to schedule an appointment. This time, my call went automatically to elevator music. Minutes later another raspy voice answered but this time I caught her name, "Donna." I informed Donna that the previous person I had talked to on the phone had rudely hung up on me. She said it had not been her and blame the rudeness on the faulty phone connection. All in all, I am beyond words with regards to these two individuals who are allowed to answer phone calls and speak to prospective patients in a rude way and worst of all hang up on them. Shame on you Scripps for allowing office staff members to treat prospective patients so rudely. Receptionists need to be patient and be sympathetic. Talking rudely and hanging up on patients should never...
Read moreHad an excellent MRI experience here recently and wanted to take a moment to thank Jon U., the person who conducted the MRI for what an amazing job he did.
I came in and was clearly nervous (I don't love being inside that tube), but Jon was incredibly patient with me. He did not make me feel rushed, or like my concerns were silly. He calm rubbed off on me, and was immensely helpful.
Once everything was ready to go he made sure I was comfortable and checked in with me during the procedure every 5-7 minutes (between scans) to make sure I was holding up alright. Every time Jon spoke he took a moment to reinforce that I was doing a great job, then he'd tell me how long the next segment would be, and asked if I was okay. It was perfect.
I've had (too) many MRI's at this point and I have NEVER been treated better by anyone over the years. As an example, Jon was the first to ever ask if I'd like a fan on for fresh air, which like, of course I do! Why has nobody ever offered that before? It was an absolute game changer.
The doc has already reviewed the imaging and said they were very well done as well. Jon gets all the credit in the world. I'm not sure if I'm reviewing this in the correct spot, but please if anyone at Scripps read this, let me know that he's great and I am...
