The Old County Jail Museum — Attraction in San Elizario

I am a member of Los Pistoleros De San Elizario and I like this place I joined the group like 13 or 12 weeks ago I think, I have to be here every third Sunday of a month and this group is awesome I love this group I love this site and I CAN'T WAIT TO GO OUT THERE,SAN ELIZARIO WE DO THIS REENACTMENT FOR ALL OF YOU OUT THERE AND I WOULD APPRECIATE IF YOU ALL COME OUT YOUNG TO OLD ALL AGES WHO ARE IN SAN ELIZARIO WHO ARE HISTORIANS I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU TO COME AND WATCH HOW THIS HISTORICAL MOVE WAS ACTED!!! that's the spirit that I like,so come if you like it.Manuel...

Ehhhhh, thats about it. If you are in the area and have 20 minutes to kill, definitely stop by. It is very lacking though and could be better. The right side is all info and pictures of how the states/border came about. The left side houses the 2 cells (which are cool because they are original) and a couple of exhibits....thats it. No real history behind the jail OR who was jailed there, etc. The real claim to fame (may not be true) was that according to legend, Billy the Kid broke into there to break...

Very cool little historical town. The jail is neat to look at and imagine the history but you can't go in. You just see it from outside so it's a bit of a let-down. Still worth visiting though.

Note: I stand corrected (by the owner) that you can, in fact, see the inside of the jail. I was unaware of the appropriate times. By all means, if you visit, be sure to ask at the Museum for a guide to open it for you! I'll be sure to do this next...
