High-quality baseball without MLB concession prices. Me and my kids love taking a short trip across the river to enjoy a Grizzlies game. It's an intimate ballpark where every seat has a great view of the game, and the grizzly staff does a good job providing entertainment primarily for kids in between innings.
The reason this is a 4 star versus a five-star is the concessions. Prices are good, but execution and quality could be improved. I asked my 15 yr old if he wanted to eat before or at the game. He paused and said, "Before. The last time I was there, the food wasn't that good." That said, we still bought drinks while at the game, and I really enjoyed my 32 oz draft beer for $13, and my son enjoyed his Kona Ice, which happened to be at the game. Later in the game (5th or 6th inning), I wanted nachos, while in line a person ordered nachos, and I could tell by the look on his face was less than pleased by the amount of cheese he had been given. Seeing this, I opted to upgrade and get the chili cheese nachos. After receiving my nachos I too was less than impressed with the amount of cheese and chili. This may have been because I waited until later when one of the two general concessions were closed, and maybe they were running out, but if that's was the case instruct your staff to stop selling nachos. All in all, it was a good night, and the Grizzlies won, which made it even better.
If you are interested in taking in a baseball game, I would highly recommend attending a Grizzlies game. Maybe just stand in line and get your concessions early...
Read moreGreat time with the family. Lots of options for tickets. We started going with the lawn. Avoids the sun and still a great view. There really isnt a bad seat here and although I love the light crowds-people are missing out. I am not a huge baseball fan but being so close makes it more fun and interesting for me. There are so many kid centered activities however for someone without young kids-its not overwhelming or annoying. Bathrooms are great-a little dated but clean. Parking is free and easy. Lots of handicap spaces as well. Food is typical of event pricing. I don't feel it's outrageous though. I was a bit disappointed in the pulled pork nachos at country Bob's but that was probably more me-the staff there was incredible and it tasted fine. I think I had my sights on the t-ravs and when I couldn't get them at first I switched to country bobs and it just did not do it for me. We like going here a lot and if you want a very kid friendly experience this is the way to go. They also have fireworks nights throughout the year included with...
Read moreI was searching the Harvest Hosts site for places to park in the Saint Louis area when the Gateway Grizzlies stadium popped up. And as luck would have it, they had a game on. And bonus, it is Two Dollar Tuesday. Two dollar tickets, two dollar hot dogs and two dollar beers (Natty Light).
So after work, I headed to the park where I showed my ticket to the ticket taker and spent a couple of hours watching the game. It was a slightly rainy drizzly night with lightning in the area, I was a little surprised that they didn't call the game until the sixth inning!
Lots of fan engagement and giveaways. And maybe it's unintentional or maybe I misheard it? When a jet plane took off from the nearby Saint Louis City Airport, they played the Top Gun "bong" sound.
I ended up not staying in the lot overnight. While it's free and level, it's way out in the middle of nowhere, in East Saint Louis and I'd be sticking out with no cover. Sounds like a good opportunity for trouble. But with others around?...
