Battery Yates is a really cool spot, with great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. My favorite part about the place is that there are rarely many people around. It is quite exposed and sometimes windy.
As a Marin maternity, newborn, and family photographer, I love Battery Yates as a session location, but you be really careful if bringing little kids along, as there are sketchy dropoffs all over the place within the battery itself. I'm pretty selective about who I bring here to photograph.

Read moreThis historic post is located in Fort Baker. Batery Yates was constructed in 1903 and was in service from 1905 untill 1946. And, it was named in 1904 in honor of Capt. George Yates from 7th Cavalry. On June 25, 1876 he was killed in the battle of the Little BigHorn, Montana. In Montana, it was one of the Indian's last armed efforts to preserve their way of life. Capt. Yates died fighting several thousand Lakota and Cheyenne warriors. Battery Yates is very attractive location for sightseeing and hiking. There is also a long tunnel that you can walk through that echos. You can also see the Pacific Ocean from Battery Yates. You can also see a lot of the Marin Headlands.
