Public Trail Advisory – Raven Caves, Sedona

As an avid hiker and parent, I strongly advise against bringing children under 10 on the Raven Caves Trail. While the hike is short, it includes multiple steep drop-offs, unprotected ledges, and uneven terrain that make it genuinely treacherous for young kids.

Even with close supervision, the live edges near the cave openings present unacceptable fall risks for toddlers or preschoolers. This trail is better suited for older children with hiking experience or adults comfortable with exposure.

For families, consider alternatives like Bell Rock Pathway or West Fork Trail—safer, scenic, and far more kid-friendly.

This little spot is a Hidden Gem! We stayed a short walk away from these caves, which was nice because the parking lot is tiny—maybe 5-6 cars at most can fit. The first part of the hike is easy, but it gets really steep when you get close to the caves. We took a trail to the left that went down to the creek and then walked to the right along the creek and found a nice step-stone climb back up to the caves. The other review that said this place didn’t have stunning views must not have explored it completely, because we thought it was awesome. Definitely had to keep a close eye on my 9 yr old and 11 year old as there are some very steep drops...

The cave is really big, my child self would have went crazy. Its a pretty short hike to the cave and then you can go further down and there is a trail that runs along the creek. The water is shallow and clear. I second the person who said bring hiking shoes with a lot of grip there are a lot of steep areas. Remember its a canyon, so the way back is the hard part. Totally worth it. There was only one car in the parking lot and I got here at 0830am...

If you can find a spot to park definitely check it out. It's a very short walk to the caves and the views are pretty cool. We decided to walk to the water to find a place to eat and that trail is also short but pretty steep. Once you get down you can walk down a long the water for a way. There is a lot of debris from what was probably a raging river at some point. We climbed over a lot and found the trail. With absolutely no people so I call that a big win.
