Cedar Grove Visitor Center — Attraction in Shaver Lake

Limited medical service! I had a medical emergency when I was stung by wasps in the forest. I had an allergic reaction, which thankfully didn’t kill me. It was the first time I had an allergic reaction, with swelling in many parts of my body, but luckily not the throat.

The lady working at the visitor center and the ranger were very kind, but it’s unacceptable that there was no doctor or even an emergency kit on the premises! Especially if you consider the high numbers of visitors.

The ranger basically advised me to drive 1,5h on windy and misty roads to reach the closest hospital in Fresno, as they didn’t even have adrenaline shots there!

Cathy Bainum is the angel of the Cedar Grove visitor center. When I about had a breakdown because I thought I drove 7 hours to full campgrounds, she assured me and my group we could still find a site and she was RIGHT! She instilled us with hope and the rest of our trip was magical thanks to her guidance and kindness.
