It's awesome there. I didn't stay there actually. I did work there years as a housekeeping supervisor though. It's the best place to work, your co-workers are just fantastic, and our staff is treated very well. Our clients are just super, awesome people. Very appreciative of the work it takes to keep it all looking good, being clean. I told her I'd be happy to share that with all of the housekeepers, as compliments really do brighten up their days! I was a bit shocked when I read here that a client from the Inn said that she was freezing, and was given no space heaters, extra blankets, nothing. It is true that the Inn does NOT have any heat, or air containers, not elevators either. It's kept as close as possible to the way things were back in the days. However - we have space heaters for all of the rooms, and there should have been 2-3 to provide possibly, what the Inn not being full. Along with extra blankets/duvets, so I cannot understand her not getting one in her room right away. That just stymies me!! Not normal at all! I feel bad she had that experience there. I wish I knew who she had dealt with over this. The Inn is a historically gorgeous house and grounds to wander around in, be amazed at, stay at, have a meal there, it really is. But -- they do clearly advertise that, unfortunately, about the conditions that they need to operate under forces them to close for part of the year, each year, due to no heat, and the issues from may arise as things as it relates to some amenities, etc. So, I kind of feel like the main onus is on the person choosing to stay there so late in the season, knowing the rules of the Inn. Sorry for the bad experience though. Sincerest thoughts...
Read moreOn our first trip there, it was a beautiful Sunday. We parked at the entrance, where we witnessed at least 10 families, minimum of 15-20 people, either loading their bikes back up after a bike ride, unloading their bike in preparation for a bike ride, or we could see people already biking in the distance. My family thought, "wow, what a great idea! What an awesome and beautiful place to ride bikes!"
Fast-forward about 2 weeks, we decide to load up our bikes and head to Shelburne Farms for a family bike ride, like we saw so many others doing the first Sunday we were there. As we were unloading our bikes, a very rude and mean lady walked up to us, very rudely telling us biking is not allowed there, and didn't even have the decency to listen to us as we tried to explain to her the only reason we took our bikes there in the first place is because the first time we were there we saw so many families biking. She essentially called us liars. What is the difference between the people we saw biking that Sunday and us? We happen to be people of color.
Rules are rules, I get it and I'm all for rules. But what happens so often to people of color, is that it's only with us that people decide to ENFORCE the rules.
As an adult, I’ve experienced situations like this plenty of times. While still painful, I have grown accustomed to it. The worst and most painful part was trying to explain to my 6 and 7 year old children why we were being reprimanded and scolded, when they saw other people riding bikes there themselves.
I'm so extremely disappointed in how we were treated and we for sure will never go back nor recommend any person of...
Read moreWe were happy with parking, lots of parking available when we arrive on a Saturday. We didn’t know how big was this farm, we came wanting to buy some dairy products and maybe some home grown vegetables. At the farm store we did find some but not much, they sell other items like maple syrup, Clothings and decorative items. Next, we went out wanting to visit some of the available sights on the farms. We saw the map along the way but not knowing how far it was, we started around 2+pm, we were heading towards the Dairy from the farm store. After walking for about more than 30 mins on foot, we are still no where near there, when it is in our view, it looks like we have another 20mins to go. We give up going there bc to and back will take more than 1 hour and by then it will be dark as the daylight seet in around 4pm. I think they need to to put up more signs. My suggestion is how about a stick along the pathway to show us how long the distance before reaching our destination. It show be starting with the big numbers from the start than slowly the number getting smaller and finally upon reaching, it becomes zero mile/km. We saw cars going in but not is it heading our direction, maybe the next time we visit, we will take a drive there. Those who wants to walk must be prepared to walk a long distance. The air is fresh and just that you need to get water ready before you set off. Last, we tried the coffee in the store, it was cold , maybe they cold use the heater ones so that during the winter, it...
